Hi Melanie Yes, I have personally found where individuals were noted by one first (given??) name in the earlier census or document(s), then in later censuses and/or documents they would appear to go by another name (possibly middle name) or combination of names, or more unfortunately, by a nick name. Thankfully, this practice was more prevalent in one particular lineage than in others, but has necessitated a great deal of additional comparisons of age, parents, siblings, spouses, geographic locators, and other documentation to verify that they were most likely the same person(s) as the first. I would also suggest that Nancy Ann may not have been an uncommon name combination as I have two Nancy Anns and one Ann Nancy in my own lineages. Good Luck in your search :-) Betty Ann
