In today's Harrisburg, Pennyslvania, USA newspaper, there was a nice article about nearby Elizabethtown. "To the sound of bagpipes and the lowering of a giant M&M, a couple of hundred people greeted the new year five hours early last night, the same time as a sister city in Ireland." [The chocolate in M&M's candy is made in Elizabethtown.] "This year Elizabethtown decided to lower the M&M at midnight, Letterkenny, Ireland time. That makes people more aware of the town's Irish sister, and allows younger families to participate." "Letterkenny is in County Donegal, from which Barnabas and Elizabeth HUGHES, founders of Elizabethtown, emigrated in 1827. The northern Lancaster County [PA] community chose Letterkenny as its sister city during its 175th anniversary in 2001." The inflatable 7 foot, yellow M&M was lowered from a crane. Happy New Year!
