I think Bess could well be Isabella and I agree with Margaret that Bess/Bessie are pet forms for Elizabeth. Also my grandmothers sister Elizabeth was always known as Bella. Just a thought LYALL might also be LYLE and ALLAN ALLEN, if you are doing an internet search or anything. Bernie. However, would a Bess be an Isabella ? I'd think not. Maybe the 4 girls were grand-daughters ? Its confusing.
