Hi everyone. In 1866 a Cochrane Hammond was a teacher and a Turnkey in Lifford Jail. Co.Donegal. He was earning 35 pounds per year. He also had his own accomodation. the Report doesn't say how long he was a teacher in Lifford. This was obtained from the Appendix to Forty-Fifth Report of the Inspectors General on the General State of The Prison of Ireland dated 1866 ; which are deposited in Boston Mass. USA Further on in the report it states " The school-teacher, who is also turnkey, was formerly employed in the model school of the National Board of Education at Belfast and understands the National System, but was never trained as a teacher. A Blackborard and some maps are much required for the school-room, which if provided would enable the teacher to give instruction on an improved system " Does anyone know if records survive for the model school of the National Board of Education at Belfast. ? There is a school named THE MODEL SCHOOL, in Belfast but its records only commence in 1908. Salary Books for various model school , but only from 1916 - 1926 files dealing with the management and maintenace of model schools are in existance, but only from 1868. Would appreciate if anyone on the list could shed some light on this. Many thanks folks Muriel
