Was this kind of thing being done in 1845-46, by a priest, a landlord, etc., in the Parish of Kilmcrenan? Why did Thomas take the expensive route from Co. Donegal to Liverpool to NYC -- why didn't he take the cheaper route from Co. Donegal to Derry to Canada?
