    1. [DONEGALEIRE] Brown/Browne in Stroangarrow/Letterhillue

    3. Just wondering if anyone researching Brown's in the area commonly known as Letterhillue or other variant spelling. (Kilteevoge Parish). I have two death certs here and I think they are my ggg grandparents but not sure. The certs I have are for James Brown, married, died 16th Sep 1871 in Stroangarrow, aged 94 and the informant was Patrick Brown, relationship not mentioned. Also Isabella Brown, widow, died 19th Jun 1877 in Stroangarrow aged 83. Informant was also Patrick Brown and again relationship not mentioned. What I know is that the land held by James Browne passed to my great great grandfather John Browne (1828-1908) in 1877, and from there to Patrick McGinty (originally from Gortiness who married Mary Brown). And from then to the Given family and later to the Forestry. The thing is how likely are James Brown (1777-1871) and John (1828-1908) to be father and son. I also have a death cert for Patrick, the informant for James and Isabella, he died 21st May 1888 aged 71 (so c 1816-1888), informant was his son James. I don't want to be assuming here but I think John 1828-1908 and Patrick 1816-1888 were brothers so was hoping that someone else might have a connection somewhere to prove/disprove things. In case it is of help, Letterhillue/Letterhillew and several other variant spellings is an 'area' covers a few townlands, but not sure which. Another name my dad mentioned was Reelin. A more general name for the area is Glenfin or Cloghan. When I first discovered I had a John Brown, steered away from him like a barge pole as the name is so common, but....if that James is mine....Anyway just wondering if anyone has Brown/Brownes from the area. Thanks for your interest in reading this, Bernie.
