    1. Re: [DONEGALEIRE] Same name same area
    2. Hi Janice, In my experience, the same person can indeed pop up in multiple townlands in the GV. And he does not need to live there or indeed do anything on any piece of land other than hold the tenancy. He can put someone else in to farm the land, for example. The GV rules according to Riley (I can send you the article if you wish) say that the people working for Griffiths were supposed to indicate where the person lived if he was not actually living on the land they were surveying. But I think they very rarely did this. I was working very recently on a Joseph Wark who appeared to hold land in Tiroddy, Taughboyne and Carrowreagh, Burt and Lisfannon, Burt. In no place in the GV does it say that the land holder is living in another townland but this Joseph dies in 1874 and sure enough, the GVRBs show that all three properties went to his son, Alexander Marshall Wark. Proof enough for me that it was the same man!! Have you checked out the Revision Books to see when the land changes hands and to whom? The microfilms of these can be ordered to you local FHC from the LDS in SLC. Hope this helps. I have a Bryan Freel in Drumagraa, Inver, Creevins, Inver and Beefpark, Killymard. These are all very close to each other. I do know that my Bryan Freel was the one at Beefpark, Killymard, but could the other two also be him? Does the person who is on the Griffith's Valuation actually have to live on the land or can they just rent it for the purpose of say raising cattle or planting more potatoes on the land?
