Was doing a lookup in 1855 Births in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland a few days ago and saw a few mentions of Donegal folk in the information given to the Registrar. 1855 was the first year of mandatory Civil Registration, more questions were asked that year than any other since. In 1856, the amount of questions asked was almost cut in half. Since there is so much information, the FHC near my home has all Births, Marriages and Deaths for 1855 covering all 901 parishes in Scotland. Out of over 800 Birth entries in Kilmarnock, here are 2 Registrations mentioning Donegal as the birthplace of a parent. 'ms' is maiden surname 1855 Births, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland entry # 492 SIMPSON, John, born 1 Aug, 11:45PM at Grange Street, Kilmarnock to Alexander SIMPSON, Carpet Weaver, 27y born County Donegal, Ireland and Mary SIMPSON ms BARNES, this was her 2nd child, 31y born Kilmarnock. The parents wed 1859 in Kilmarnock, they had 1 boy living at this time. Informant was the father, Alexander SIMPSON. 1855 Births, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland entry # 674 COPELAND, Mary born 17 Oct, 2:30pm at Fox? Street, Kilmarnock to John COPELAND, Stone Mason, 29y born Glenluce [Wigtownshire, Scotland] and Margaret COPELAND ms KERR, this was her 2nd child, 26y born County Donegal, Ireland. The parents wed 1851 in Kilmarnock. They had 1 girl living at this date.
