    2. When ordering marriage and death certificates from GRO should I order the full or research certificate? I'm trying to locate parents on these records. Which one would give me more information? Janice

    2. Janice, When ordering the certs from the GRO in Roscommon, always order the one described under Note 2 = a photocopy at €6. This will be exactoy that, a photocopy of the original and therefore with all the information of the original Not only that, but if you have the Year, Registration District, Volume and Page number, as is usually the case if you have found the record at the LDS website, then you can send just €4 and write on the form, "No search needed, cost therefore €4 each." An Irish Death Cert will NOT usually give either parent. The only other person named is the person who was Present at Death and who registered the death. Sometimes this person's relationship to the deceased is given but usually, it is not. It also gives the presumed age of the person and the cause of death along with the residence (townland) of the deceased and the person who notified the death. An Irish Marriage Cert will have the names of both fathers but neither mother. Sometimes the ages of the couple are given but usually just the fact that they were over 21 - written as "Full". It also gives the residences of the bride and groom (but not their fathers), their marital status, the occupations of both parties plus their fathers and also the names of the witnesses but no indication as to who they are. It also tells you where they were married and therefore their religion. Clearly, each has its advantages. 3. Janice I have sent for many records from GRO. I asked them about certificates and they said the cost of a full certificate is 10 euros, and a photocopy is 6 euros. I filled in applications for birth, marriage and death that I downloaded from their site http://www.groireland.ie/about_us.htm And sent them in with cash ,(I insured the mail)requesting photocopies. They may be allowing charge cards now-should be on their site. England GRO does and it works. Place of birth, date, name, father's name and dwelling place, name and surname of mother, profession of father, and informant. Date and place of death, name and surname, condition, age, profession, cause of death, informant. When married, names and surnames, ages, conditions, professions, residences, fathers' names and surnames. It was highly satisfactory. Good luck! 3. Janice Sorry. I just saw I left out cause of death and informant. Then for marriage: when married etc. Again, good luck!
