    1. [DONEGALEIRE] HANNAH and RITCHIE - found them on Donegal Bay
    2. Ms Betty Fredericks
    3. Hello,   Probably for 10 yrs., I've been wanting to find out where my HANNAH and RITCHIE ancestors were living in County Donegal, Ireland.      The information was just not available to me, from my research at home.     For a year, I have not been able to do much research because of my husband's serious illness last winter.    He is now almost recovered, so I can start posting queries on my many "brick walls"  and "concrete-block walls."     I haven't posted about my  great-grandmother's parents for a while.    But I decided to post a query about them on the Ireland Message Board this week.    Voila !     Very helpful researchers did some look-ups for me and found out that William HANNAH's family and Andrew RITCHIE's family were living in small "beach" towns in the inner corner of Donegal Bay.        The HANNAH family was in Rossnowlagh,  and the RITCHIE family was in Creevins, both just south of Donegal-town.   William HANNAH was born in 1828 there, and his parents were William HANNAH and Mary Ann (unknown).     Eliza RITCHIE was born in 1837, and her parents were Andrew RITCHIE and Isabella (unknown).     In addition, the researcher found out they had 2 other children, William and Isabella, younger than Eliza.   William and Eliza went to Glasgow, Scotland, and married there in Dec. 1854 (rec. Jan. 1855).    They had a daughter, Mary Ann, in 1856, and a daughter, Elizabeth, in 1857.    In the summer of 1857, the family migrated to Massachusetts.      Elizabeth was 3 mos. old and arriving in a basket.     The couple had several more children after arriving,  but had lost their oldest daughter when she was young.     When Elizabeth grew up, she married William KERR, who was born in the Prov. of Quebec.     He had come down ~1874 and they married near Boston in 1876.      William and Elizabeth KERR mostly lived in Everett and Malden and had 6 children.   By the way,  William's parents were Robert KERR and Elizabeth HENDERSON, born 1827 in Canada.    Even though they had surnames from Scotland,  their parents were born in County Sligo, Ireland, in the 1780 to 1805 timeframe.   And, Patrick KERR and William HENDERSON were referred to as "Irishmen" where they lived.   Just an FYI for you.   Betty                  (near Lowell, MA, USA)   (on Lists for 10 yrs.;   now an Admin for 9 Lists, including   CAN-USA-Migration, and  GAVIN  and  CORKILL )   (remember to check the  "Find a List" feature for Lists which are about - New England)
