    1. Re: [DONEGALEIRE] FW: 1st Post - again!!
    2. We have given you all you need, John. You want to do it yourself, we have given you the websites. Why do you need someone else who is doing the same research if you want to do it yourself? And you DID ignore the info I gave you. Most people comment on the findings and say if they seem right or not. I think what annoys and others like me who try to help on the Lists is how often we do help and all we get in reply is a thanks and then an ignoring of the data instead of looking at it and commenting and asking questions and perhaps seeing where to go next. And btw, my name is BOYD. Apologies if I sound like I am losing my heid but it sort of happens more often than we would like and I am replying on list so that others be warned!!! Tee hee. I hope you find other researchers. Bob, Keep the heid! It was suggested to me that due to Xmas I may not get as many answers as normal, also an email from Bob Hiflyte stated that it was best to join all 4 Donegal lists. Hence my repeat posts to all 4. It is possible that there is someone out there doing the same research as me is it not? As far as the answers I received to my original post are concerned I am very thankful, I apologise if I got my Bob's mixed up. When I stated that I preferred to try and do the research myself I meant that with the links you and Bob had given me I would give it a go. I was not ignoring the information you gave me, why would I? I think you have taken my reply in the wrong manner, it was certainly not meant as a dig at you. John, I replied to your original post in considerable detail almost immediately, as did Bob Hiflyte. I gave you the location of one of your four families, the Davis family, which I suggested you use as a template for finding the others. You confused the two of us and replied to my posting with a "Dear Bob", thanking me for the websites which I gave you, making no comment on the Davis family which I found for you and declaring, "I prefer to try and do the research myself". You also told Bob in a separate posting that you would use the websites which he gave you. I am at a loss to know how much more help you could have been given in this "wrong time" and even more so as to what more you would like us to do for you since you ignored what I gave you because you want to do it yourself and Bob and I have already given you all the best websites. Let me repeat, there is a very useful guide to basic Donegal genealogy at Lindel Buckley's website which you can use as well as anyone else to do your Donegal genealogy for yourself: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/genbookletE3.pdf Boyd Gray http://familytrees.genopro.com/boydgray26/Boyd/default.htm http://www.westulstergenealogy.com/ http://preview.tinyurl.com/yk7gckr -----Original Message----- From: donegaleire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:donegaleire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of John Gibb Sent: 09 January 2011 16:23 To: DONEGALEIRE@rootsweb.com Subject: [DONEGALEIRE] FW: 1st Post - again!! Hi All, I first posted just before Christmas and received a couple of replies, thanks again to those who did. It was suggested that I had picked the wrong time for my first post (probably correct) and should re=post in New Year. Thanks John Gibb johnmgibb@blueyonder.co.uk Hi All, This is my first post on the Donegal list. I am researching my wife's family and would appreciate a couple of pointers on where to seek information. I have been using the LDS site on her father's side (he came from Antrim) with some success using the info from there to purchase certs.from Roscommon or PRONI but have hit a brick wall with her mother who comes from Donegal. In the past other members of her family have done some research and even have approximate dates for birth, death & marriages, but they don't have any paperwork to prove it! I would like to purchase certificates but need to be sure if what I have is accurate. I have the following which is mostly oral family history: Margaret (Maggie) came to Scotland at an early age 3 or 4 years. Her parents (both born in Ireland) were Charles O'Donnell (b. abt. 1871 & d. Feb 1949 in Dumbarton, Scotland) and Catherine Davis (b. abt. 1887, d. Oct 1957 in Dumbarton, Scotland); they married 27/01/1916 in St. Eugene RC cathedral, Derry, Ireland. Margaret was born 05/07/1913 in Buncrana, Donegal and she had a sister Jane. Charles O'Donnell's parents were Manus O'Donnell (d. bef. 1902) and Mary??(b.abt. 1843, d. bet. 1901-1911). Catherine Davis's parents were Andrew Davis (d. bef.1902) and Katherine McAvenney (spelling?) (b. abt. 1856, d. aft. 1910). Andrew Davis died after having an accident in Glasgow, story goes that Katherine returned to Ireland with compensation money and bought plot of land to build house on at Burnfoot, Macrabeg, Faun, near Buncrana, Donegal. Obviously some of the spellings of names could be incorrect. I'm looking for any info anyone may have or just point me in the right direction.
