William, Go to Scotlandpeoples.org and do a search. Official BMD/Gensite for Scotland. http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ Searches are free but you pay for the actual data. It is free to register you only have to pay when you want to look at the images and results. It is probably the best place to obtain positive data on the net since they hold the official registers etc for all of Scotland. I did a check and found a reference for one (1) Neal Gill/Duffy/1876/1876/RC but did not actually see the results it takes, my credits are locked in since they expired after 90 days, they are still there but I have to top up my account to use them, you will see when you read the info on the site. The census below show that the children Patrick and Hannah were born in Scotland, this should answer some of your concerns. Also found the following in the 1881 Sct Census Dwelling: 7 Bright St Census Place: Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland Source: FHL Film 0203640 GRO Ref Volume 644-3 EnumDist 84 Page 11 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Neal GILL M 26 M Ireland Rel: Head Occ: Labourer Gnl Bridget GILL M 25 F Ireland Rel: Wife Patrick GILL 4 M Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland Rel: Son Hannah GILL 2 F Greenhills, Stirling, Scotland Rel: Daur Patrick GILL U 24 M Ireland Rel: Boarder Occ: Cal Rly Labourer Gnl Neal GILL U 26 M Ireland Rel: Boarder Occ: Cal Rly Labourer Gnl Patrick GILL U 20 M Ireland Rel: Boarder Occ: Cal Rly Labourer Gnl Also check out LIndel's website @: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/ Take care Bob CDN ================== On 12/01/2011 2:21 PM, williebriney53@aol.co.uk wrote: Hi Bob Thanks very much for your email. Yes, these are my family - Neal Gill (born 23 April 1854 & who married Bridget (Biddy) Duffy) was my great grandfather. ... I've also recently been told that they may have got married in St Rollox RC Church, Lanark, Scotland on 19 Feb 1876 - but this is not certain. I know that they had at least two sons while in Scotland:...I've also been told that Neal (Neil) & Bridget lived at 10 Mason St, Glasgow in 1876. What I'd liked to try and find out is whether or not 19/2/1876 is there actual wedding date and if they had any other children while in Scotland? ... ===================
Hi! This might help a bit - Gortaran is in Clehagh townland, Clonmany parish................its an area in the south portion of the townland, where in 1857, it was rented by - Patrick (Hugh) Gill Patrick (Neal) Gill Neal Gill Neal (James) Gill (land only) I have the map online at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/clehaghmap.jpg One of those Patricks (maybe the Patrick (Neal) one) was the father of your Neal...................Neal Gill, Chemical works labourer, bachelor, 21, living at 10 Mason St, Glasgow, son of Patrick Gill, farmer, and Ellen Doherty, married Bridget Duffy, Cotton ? weaver, spinster, 20, same address, dau of James Duffy, Chemical works labourer and Mary Doherty, 19 Feb 1876 at St Mungo's Chapel, Glasgow. Witnesses Michael Monaghan and Catherine Sheils. Patrick Gill, Gortaran (Clehagh) married Ellen Doherty, Maghermore, 8 Feb 1853 - it looks like Ellen is in the 1901 census for Clehagh as a widow - I have that census online at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/1901cleaghclonm.htm - check household 5. Neal Gill and Bridget Duffy must have spent some time in Magheranaul before moving to Cloontagh - I have them in household 10 of the 1901 census Cloontagh at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/1901Cloontagh.htm Anyway, I hope that helps a bit!
