    2. Hello Boyd. I wrote privately to John when he made his first posting, suggesting that as it was Xmas, a lot of OTHER people who MIGHT have been interested in his posting, might not have seen it; and therefore I suggested that after the holiday period he might find it helpful to post again. I cannot recall now whether I wrote that to him before or after you and Bob had provided your -- as always -- valuable and helpful advice to him. BUT, what I had in my head when I suggested that to him, Boyd; was NOT meant as any slight to what either or both of you had posted; but INSTEAD, that by re-posting he might find other listers who are researching the same family SURNAMES, who might be interested and might therefore reply to him. I am sorry that my advice to him has started this level of the discussion; but I think that in re-posting as he has done, he is actually advertising his interest in making contact with others on the list or elsewhere who might be researching the same family lines or surnames, or have local knowledge or information about them to share with him. My apologies to you and the list, and to John, for having instigated a not-so-nice line of messages; which was certainly not my intention; and which I honestly believe was not John's intention either. Whilst I am here, I wish a slightly late Happy New Year to all listers. Ray in oz > boydgray26@utvinternet.com wrote: > > We have given you all you need, John. 2. Good morning, Ray, John and Listers, Please accept my apologies for seeming more than a little tetchy in my second reply to John. It has all been a bit of a misunderstanding and thank you, Ray, for taking the time to explain it. The timing of your off-list reply to John is not that important. Before or after, John is probably new to Lists and would have taken your advice notwithstanding the replies Bob and I had already made. He would not have appreciated that we are often frustrated by giving help that is not acted upon by those who like to ask questions but not then do the work. I think we all understand each other now. I hope that John and others reading this will feel able to continue to continue to ask questions as their research progresses. And, while I am here, I hope that you, Ray, are safe and not too badly affected by the dreadful floods devastating your eastern seaboard and are therefore able to enjoy the New Year as well as we are here in Donegal, exceptional snow notwithstanding!
