Hi Listers, Not sure how these barnacles on the backside of society manage to insinuate their tawdry wares into decent folks' communications but beware of replying as when you hit reply, it does not go to Donegaleire but to the fake address of "John J Tonry", where the scammers will collect your email address, which they will now know is a live one, and which they will then send lots more spam to. And never ever open the link contained in any of these spams. While searching for Manus McFadden and the McCloskey's of Dunfanaghy, Donegal I met up with a gentleman named Trearty (Sean, I believe) who still lives in that area of Donegal. My Bustard's (Church of Ireland) from Castlederg had a couple of young McCuen cousins living with them in Gulph Mills PA for the 1900 Census. Have never explored the McCuen/McKeown connection. Hi Dave, Yes! This was indeed the Alexander Marshall Wark, who went to Langley. His first wife was an Isabella (or Rebecca) James but I had no idea he remarried. I have a very substantial family tree for these Warks as I did a lot of work for a descendant who still lives in BC and I also showed another descendant around the Wark properties in Lisfannon, Burt, Bridgend, Carrowreah, Burt and Tiroddy, Taughboyne only last Saturday. But again, I had no idea they had any connection to Donagheady. Or was that the Mitchells? Is she related to you? If you are interested, I will put you in contact with the researcher in BC. I am sure she would be interested in the photographs. AMW's grandfather is a Henry Wark of Tiroddy and this lady is descended from Henry. One of her Wark's was a famous Factor in the Hudson Bay Company and a politician in the Victoria government. Regards. If so, I have 2 photos of him. His second wife was Finwell Hamilton Mitchell of Cullion (Donagheady), this family was also at Lisfannon co. Donegal. And he does not need to live there or indeed do anything on any piece of land other than hold the tenancy. He can put someone else in to farm the land, for example. The GV rules according to Riley (I can send you the article if you wish) say that the people working for Griffiths were supposed to indicate where the person lived if he was not actually living on the land they were surveying. Margaret, I have an ex colleague in Derry who is not too interested in genealogy but who told me that she was somehow related to the Alfords of (and I cannot remember exactly where but I seem to remember it was near Letterkenny) in Donegal. She also told me that this family was very wealthy, there was a monastery there and that a lot of research had been done on it. Am I on a red herring here or should I try to contact her and at least get the name of the area from her? A quick google gives me Alfords in Skeoge, Pa of Burt, and I suspect these are the people to whom my ex-colleague was referring. I know some about Rachel from her Death Registration in Campsie, Stirlingshire, 1855, the first year of Civil Registration in Scotland. More questions were asked of the Informant that year than in any hear since. The Informant was a son, John MURRAY [name spelled MURRAY in the 1841 census, a few short years after they arrived in Campsie. Edward's parents were John MORROW and Mary BURNETT. An Australian Researcher and I met about a month ago online and have put together the children of Edward and Rachel who left Donegal for Campsie, Stirlingshire, then Glasgow. What I'm now wanting to find are Rachel's mother's ALFORD line. To date, finding any ALFORDs has been difficult at best. Rachel was reported to have been born Killymard and using her age at death, it would be about 1806. To add a layer of difficulty to the search, her reported father's name is the same as her husband's name....Edward MORROW. Have checked the earliest record I can find of the Killymard area, that would be the 1821 census included in the book 'Killymard, Ancient and Modern'. No ALFORDs are listed. Here is what the 1855 Death Registration had for her information. 1855 was the ONLY year the Informant was asked to give names and ages for all the deceased children, living or dead. And they wanted the age of the child at their death. A wealth of information. Edward wed twice more before he died 1877 in Calton, Glasgow. He and Rachel had 8 children, 4 born Donegal, 4 born Campsie. Advice for finding ALFORDs is what I'm now seeking. THANKS - Meg Greenwood / Oklahoma USA --------- 1855 Deaths, entry #7. While on the trail of ALFORDs, I found in the 1881 Census for England an Alice R. ALFORD born "Donegal". She was estimated to have been born 1869 and now age 12 living in East Stonehouse, Devon, England at 60 East Street the Stepdaughter of John G. MAY. I looked in the Indexes for her birth and found... Alice Rosana ALFORD, 1868 Births volume 17 page 258, Millford. Details from the film for volume 17 page 258... Entry #365, Alice Rosana ALFORD born 7 Oct at Rathmullen to William ALFORD and Elizabeth Anna ALFORD ms ADAM. Occupation 'Leading Seaman' RN. Residence Rathmullen. Informant was E. A. ALFORD, mother of Rathmullen. Registered Milford Nov 24. She may have no links to the ALFORDs I'm looking for but I won't discount her yet. Am looking a full 60y earlier. Will look in the Indexes backwards from 1868 to see if their marriage is listed. MegG in OK -------------------------------------------------
