    1. [DONEGALEIRE] Cavan county COOTE post to Donegaleire
    2. Meg Greenwood
    3. Concerning Meg's recent Cavan county post to this List. Well, I happen to know she was working on Donegal topics and ran into the Norway item. She got so fixated on Donegal parishes with the LAWSON marriage [kind thanks to Margaret and Sylvia and Ron] that when it came time to look again at the 1911 census for those COOTE/S names in Bailieborough, she just continued posting to Donegal. The link is a James COOTES whose wife, Mary Anne BRADDEN was born 22 Nov, 1856 in Ballintra, Drumholm. They wed in Glasgow, Scotland in December of 1879. Meg is a direct descendant of Mary Ann's brother, William BRADDEN born July, 1854 Drumholm and she decided to identify COOTE families to begin to narrow the field of candidates. I happen to know that Meg really really really appreciates getting Cavan county help from Donegal county researchers.....this List is really good about offering anything they've got. And from now on, Meg will pay more attention to making sure she sends the right post to the right List with the right ancestor's name. I know for sure she's got a sticky note on the edge of her monitor to double check the right LIST before sending ..... how do I know this ?? Yep, its me......if anyone belongs to the Cavan List, you'll be seeing more of this topic soon......MEG --------------------------------------------------------

    3. Hello Meg. Thanks for posting this. Another note to add to my mess of MOORHEADs. lol I have a very old attachment sent to me about 7 years ago by Sylvia MOORE; showing this Lavinia MOORHEAD as one of her relations in Mullins townland, Killymard parish, Donegal. In that attachment, Sylvia showed the husbands surname as LAWSON; and noted that he was Norwegian. If Sylvia is still a member of this list, I expect that she would be thrilled to have this reference. Perhaps you are both in touch already. Season's Greetings. 3. This was a strange entry stumbled across while looking through a microfilm of 1856 Marriages for Donegal. Volume 4, page 583, line entry #70.... May 29, 1856. John LOWSEN [Lowesen? Lowrsen?], 22y, Native of Norway, Bachelor, Seaman residing Killymard. Son of John LOWSEN, Seaman. Wed to Lavinia MOORHEAD, 21y, Spinster residing parish of Killymard. Daughter of John MOORHEAD, Farmer. Married in the Parish Church of Killymard by License. Witnesses were Samuel THOMPSON and Andrew MOORHEAD. I'm thinking this surname might actually be LARSEN. LOWSEN is spelled 2 different ways on this entry. John LOWSEN is written in the body of the Registration and John LOWESEN or LOWRSEN is written at the bottom of the entry near where the Witnesses's names are entered . Since the groom likely had a Norwegian accent now flavored with Irish, no telling what the Registrar heard for the surname. Anyone have something on this family ? This couple is not [yet] related to me. Meg Greenwood / Oklahoma USA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2. Meg Greenwood
    3. Also in Kilsyth records was this Donegal related entry..... -------------------------------------------------- 1855 Births, Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland Entry # 217 [last entry of that year]. Helen MORREN born 14 December, 2pm at Meeting House Close, Kilsyth to Mary Ann MORREN, Cloth Clipper [no husband given and no father's name for the child. Those areas are completely blank on the Registration], age 28y born Donegal, Ireland. Her Mark X, witnessed by William MURRAY and William McNEY, Assistant Teacher. Registered Dec 31 at Kilsyth, Registrar was James Anderson. At first, I though it said MORROW, but it clearly shows MORREN on the Registration. If Mary Ann MORREN was indeed 28y in 1855, she'd have been born about 1827 in Donegal. Meg Greenwood / Oklahoma USA

Meg Greenwood / Oklahoma USA ------------------------------------------------ 1855 Deaths, Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland Entry # 45. Peter MULHERON, 40y born Donegal, Ireland and had been in Kilsyth 5y. No known marriage, those columns for spouse and children were blank. Parents names unknown. Died May 9, 5:15pm at Old Town, Kilsyth, he was a Lodger with James CARRIGAN. Cause of Death was Lung Disease duration 2m. Buried Kilsyth Burial Grounds. Burial was Certified, he was seen by physician. Informant was James CARRIGAN, Occupier at House. Registered Kilsyth on 10 May. Since the Informant was not a family member, the recorded surname in Donegal may not be MULHERON but should sound like it. Since its written that he was in Kilsyth for 5y, he should be in the 1851 Census there. If anyone is looking for a free transcription, it will be at the FREE CENS website. 1. [DONEGALEIRE] [Donegaleire]Social Security in USA changed rules for SS-5 forms
    2. >>Social Security Administration extends FOIA restriction to 100 years _http://megansmolenyak.posterous.com/social-security-administration-extends-foia-r_ (http://megansmolenyak.posterous.com/social-security-administration-extends-foia-r) >>Unfortunately, it’s now official. I have been ordering Social Security applications for several decades, and have found them especially valuable over the last decade for assisting with my Army cases. A few years ago, I noticed that they were starting to block out names of parents on the applications – which is very unfortunate since that’s the primary reason for ordering them. Still, the restriction seemed to pertain to applications for those born from 1940 or so on, and the explanation was that their parents could still be alive. So though I wasn't keen on it, I could understand the logic.<< >>But recently – without any announcement – the Administration extended the restriction to 100 years – that is, 100 years from the birth of the applicant, so you can now only obtain this record in an unaltered state for those born prior to 1912. This letter is in response to one I wrote where I explained how it would negatively impact the ability to locate soldiers’ family members and that the parents whose privacy was suddenly being protected would have to be somewhere on the order of 120 to 150 years old, if alive. I can apparently receive the full application if I can prove that the parents are deceased, but 1) that’s a catch-22 since that’s exactly why I usually ordered the document in the first place, and 2) many of my cases are for foreign-born soldiers who immigrated to the U.S. so I would have to seek death certificates from places ranging from Finland to the Philippines.<< >>For similar reasons, this perplexingly long restriction will obviously also affect the 40% of Americans of Ellis Island heritage, which is also regrettable as this was the best tool for learning the names of the parents of immigrants so you could then extend your research overseas. I'm very disappointed in this decision and truly can't grasp what has caused the Administration to put such a severe restriction in place – far in excess of that of most states that have limits on death certificate access – but I wanted to at least let the genealogical community know as it would be unfortunate for others to spend money needlessly. Because this policy was never announced, I have spent money on four requests ($27 or $29 each) for people born in the 19-teens, only to receive documents of no value to me. You might want to let your friends in the genealogical community know.<<

    3. Just took a look at your FB page and hit "like" on that one and the other sites.  Thanks!    I try to keep up with the news out in Inishowen, Not so long ago, John A. McLaughlin did a stage production of the 1881 Evictions in Carrowmenagh.  Wish we could have been there for that one.   Even though it's been over a hundred years since great grandfather Michael emigrated, our relatives in Carrowmenagh could see that daughter Rachel and myself still carry physical resemblances to the McFeeleys of Carrowmenagh.  I've seen the old pictures and they're not exagerating.  That's a part of genealogy that goes beyond the careful checking and researching of old records, finding that it's still alive after all that time.   Best regards!   -- Dan M. --- On Sat, 11/19/11, boydgray26@utvinternet.com <boydgray26@utvinternet.com> wrote: And sure did you ever see anyone look more retiring and bashful? I spotted this link to an Inishowen genealogy/reunion story on the Visit Inishowen Facebook page, featuring our own Boyd Gray -- link is here:   http://cakicking.blogspot.com/2011/11/meeting-our-inishowen-family.html   I'm on the digest version of Donegal-Eire, so apologies if this is a repeat that was posted to the list before I was able to see it. <><><><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><> Dan McFeeley "Meon an phobail a thogail trid an chultur" (The people's spirit is raised through culture)

    3. Ian Thank you for letting us know of this ship. Just looked at those who were lost and those who survived. 3. Wm M'Monagle and C M'Monagle his mother from Leckpatrick, County Tyrone, plus Mary M'Monagle and her son James (one child lost) from Taughboyne, County Donegal, were survivors from the Brig DISPATCH (maybe Despatch) from Londonderry which sailed for Quebec on 29th May 1828 and was wrecked on a rock off Newfoundland. They were eventually taken to Halifax by HMS Tyne arriving there on 26th July 1828. (From The Ships Lists). It would be interesting to know whether anyone claims to be a relative of those lucky survivors.
