Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Are you missing people who should be on census?? The transcriptions are as they appear on Forms! (*as per instructions to transcribers!) Often the Surname was put Christian name column...so instead of E.G. entering Mary in Christian name box and Barrington is Surname box you have to reverse them!! Put Barrington in Christian name box and Mary in Surname box...then search!! Using Google URL shortener you can see examples of what I'm waffling on about!! (I like waffles...!!) here is the URL http://goo.gl/s0cBr which will show you how many people there were with the Surname Mary...so try putting the Surname you are researching in the box for Christian name!! DH
Brilliant idea. I never ever thought to put the Surname in the first name box. Thanks Boyd Yes it's on Google and opens as PDF there but not if I select to download, "open with" Adobe as a PDF. I have a few Octet streams that I'd like to open. As for authors mine is H P Swan who wrote a few books "H.P. Swan is an important part of Inishowen. He wrote many books about here and his travels. Swan Park is named after him and you also have the link to Swan's Mill and the fact that they first brought electricity to Buncrana in 1923......" http://www.buncrana.com/displayArticle.aspx?articleId=99 Must read some of them someday!! Glad it worked. You will enjoy the book, it has some great information. Which specific area are you researching? Since there isn't any index, I indexed a few pages that were of interest to me up in Malin Head. I just remembered you probably can search the book and find what you want. Enjoy! Thank you very much Bob.. 2 new ones there! Even by the ones you posted it shows just how complicated all these families are, someone posted about them all intermarrying which is very much the case! Then if one takes the data I posted re Philly... Looks like they were very well connected as some are buried in Derry Cathedral as there is no g/yard attached...now that takes clout! As with most names one has to take into account variants..mine used Swan/Swann within the same family unit which doesn't help either. Anyway, the point is that often one needs to move sideways to other families in order to move one step forward..just like pieces on a chessboard, many people don't/won't! Now to check for a connection between the Donegal Wylies and Antrim ones.... Sorry to be attacking these from a Swan connection BUT I posted a Swan/Wylie Marriage....then Burnett/Alford/Swan mix... The following has ALL of these with Suzanne Wylie connecting both!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Wylie Series (Catalogue Code: AN002) photographs were passed from James Beall Wylie [1862-1947] and his wife, Helen Cornelia Roseborough [1868-1957], to their son Garvin Roseborough Wylie [1896-1981] and his wife, Margaret Lucile Brosius [1907-1999], to their daughter, Suzanne Wylie who owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2009. Suzanne also received photographs from her cousin Jack Harrison. Each generation added to the collection with photographs from their own family and in-laws. The Wylie Series is a part of the Suzanne Wylie Collection ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Swan Series (Catalogue Code: AN001) photographs were passed from Alford Gregg Swan [1827-1903] and his wife, Elma Phillips [1837-1923], to their daughter, Ruth Ann Swan [1880-1951] and her husband, Raymond Samuel Brosius [1880-1966], to their daughter, Margaret Lucile Brosius [1907-1999] and her husband, Garvin Roseborough Wylie [1896-1981], to their daughter, Suzanne Wylie who owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2009. Each generation added to the collection with photographs from their own family and in-laws. The Swan Series is a part of the Suzanne Wylie Collection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.flickr.com/photos/greeneconnections/collections/72157626069729764/ (Wonder if Suzanne Wylie has ever been called a common denominator before!!) :-))
Very interesting...Morrows married Burnetts...Swans married Burnetts...Swans married Alfords.. You will probably come across a tree for Richard Swan which contains both Alfords and Burnetts (or at least it should!) http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=30175892 you will see Alford Gregg Swan there...you might get some clues if you look through the Richard Swan tree DH ==================================================== Have had some great luck lately in finding the family of Edward MORROW who wed Rachel MORROW about 1800 probably Donegal. I know some about Rachel from her Death Registration in Campsie, Stirlingshire, 1855, the first year of Civil Registration in Scotland. More questions were asked of the Informant that year than in any hear since. The Informant was a son, John MURRAY [name spelled MURRAY in the 1841 census, a few short years after they arrived in Campsie. Edward's parents were John MORROW and Mary BURNETT. An Australian Researcher and I met about a month ago online and have put together the children of Edward and Rachel who left Donegal for Campsie, Stirlingshire, then Glasgow. What I'm now wanting to find are Rachel's mother's ALFORD line. To date, finding any ALFORDs has been difficult at best. Rachel was reported to have been born Killymard and using her age at death, it would be about 1806.
Marriage of Joseph Swan to Mary Jane Wiley, 9 May 1850 Joseph Swan, Full age, Bachelor, Farmer, Sappagh, son of Samuel Swan, Farmer to Margaret Jane Wylie, Full age, Spinster, ----, Gallagh, daughter of John Wylie, Farmer Quote from a Wylie in the area; 'Sappah is a small town land just out side the Village of Muff Donegal the village is just over the border from Londonderry a 10 minute drive my husband comes from Derryvane another small townland & other Wylie Family are from Carnamoyle all in the same area'.... / DH Subject:/ [DONEGALEIRE] Donegaleire Dig. 2 - 206 - Sappagh,Muff Parish - Names 1857 GV /Date:/ Fri, 7 Sep 2007 00:48:18 -0700 (PDT) /In-Reply-To:/ <002c01c7eee7$449af310$0101a8c0@Graham001> To Bob Orr - Your mention of Sappagh being only 606 acres - roughly one sq. mile -reminds us that all these people are bound to be connected. That's a lot of people in a small space, and they had been multiplying and some not moving very far afield for generations. I believe the Joseph Wylie in Sappagh 1857 is my Samuel's brother. Joseph and wife (I think Mary LONG) didn't emigrate until later. He was from Sappagh, per a descendent. Margaret Hastings Hendrix

Hi Marilyn There were Gallagher and Sweeney families in Carrowcannon in the 1857 Griffith Valuation. Carrowcannon is a townland near Falcarragh in Donegal. My McKinley family lived next door on Ballyconnell townland where the landlord was Wybrants Olphert and later his son John. In 1906 one of my McKinley line married into the McClintock family who lived at Carrowcannon. I suggest you check out the full Griffiths transcript for further details and also look at the cancellation books for the townland. CARROWCANON (Ord.
