    3. Dear Margaret, I know this wasn't addressed to me but - yes we did have a very large earthquake but it was right in the south of the South Island and in a lightly populated area, so there were no casualties (not human ones anyway, just some property damage). Many thanks for your concern though. Jeanette (NZ) ----- Original Message Follows ----- > Hi Lindel, > > Heard on the news just a while ago there was a big > earthquake in New Zealand? Are you okay? 3. This is a bit after the mid 1700s - mid 1800s actually...........there is a townland called Seedagh in the parish of Clondavaddog and in the 1857 Griffiths Valuation, there was a McElhinny household there, headed by John McElhinny. There were other McElhinny households in surrounding townlands, headed by an Alexander, Charles, James, Robert and William. Hope that helps! 2. Hello Leann, I am interested in your McElhinney connection in Seedagh as I had a great great grandmother, Isabella McElhinney who married Matthew Morrow in Muineagh, a townland next to Seedagh in the north of Donegal in the beautiful Mulroy Bay area of Fanad. Isabella was born in nearby Rosgoill in 1819 and died in 1864. I have her death certificate. I would be pleased to hear from you, and please e-mail me directly if you wish. Kind regards, Alex Stewart

    1. [DONEGAL] Dever DNA project
    2. Patricia
    3. Hi, I am the project manager for the new Dever and variants DNA project and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in it. The DNA project would look at the DNA of various family lines and see if we can find any connections. The website for more information on DNA testing is http://www.familytreedna.com/ If you have any questions you can e-mail me and I will do my best to answer them. At this stage the Dever and variants DNA project does not have it's own website but the project is in the beginning stages and I am sure we will have a member willing to get one started. The test is only for males with the surname of Dever and that is how the Y chromosome can be traced. Patricia Greber (Dever)

    1. [DONEGAL] Relationship to daughter's in-laws
    2. Thwaite
    3. Listers This will test the ingenuity/knowledge/inventiveness of all - Does anyone know if there is an English word/expression for the relationship one has with the parents-in-law of one's own son/daughter ??? EVEN thoughts from other languages/cultures/societies would be interesting to know (- as apparently there is a distinct word in Chinese for this relationship!) I doubt that English stretches this far, but my wife and I are about to acquire some of them as an addition to our family (courtesy of my daughter) and this has set me to wondering...! NO need to remind me of the Prohibited Degrees of relationship !! Regards Stephen in the Waikato New Zealand

    1. [DONEGAL] Gartan Parish, Donegal
    2. Lindel
    3. Hi! If anyone has ancestors who originated in Gartan parish, then you may be interested in the Gartan pages I have just updated..........those of you who I know have an interest in the parish would already have received an email from me! The new address for the site is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/gartan/ It now contains online scans of brith, marriage and death registrations, census for 32 townlands, cemetery inscriptions, baptisms and maps, as well as a search engine, which will search only the Gartan pages..............there are 50 pages online, dedicated to the parish, so far! If anyone finds family within those pages, I'd be happy to link their email address to family entries and add them to the list of Gartan researchers. All the best, Lindel Kaikoura, New Zealand Veni, Vidi, Velcro - I came, I saw, I stuck around Gartan - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/gartan/ Donegal Genealogy Resources - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/

    3. I don't know if it would give details of her parentage but Catherine Black's war record is at the National Archives - formerly Public Record office (PRO) in Kew, London She was an officer in the QAs from 01/01/1914 - 31/12/1920 and the file reference is WO 399/660 http://catalogue.pro,gov,uk The London Gazette might give more details of her MBE . You have probably already searched the Ramelton churches for a baptism but she was presumably born after 1865 and you should be able to search for a birth certificate - the PRO record might give her date of birth. www.groni.gov.uk There was a problem with this website when I tried to access it. I have used their computerised database in Belfast which makes searching much easier but I can't remember if it includes Donegal records. If not, the GRO in Dublin can issue a certificate if you know the date of birth or reference.
