Dea Janette You said "I'm looking for any other McFaden, or McPhaiden from Donegal in this time sphere" VIZ 1798 to 1830 and beyond and mentioned Milltown There is a Milltown, five kilometres west of Letterkenny. Townlands called Milltown can be found in the parishes of in Convoy, Conwal, Donegal,Gartan, Killymard and Raphoe see the URLs http://www.dun-na-ngall.com/town.html and http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bhilchey/DonegalMain.html#Civil%20Parish%20Map There are no McFadens, or McPhaidens in the entire Republic of Ireland according to UKINFO and no McPhaidens and only 17 McFadens in all of the UK Viz MCFADEN,RUSSELL,127,,HURST GROVE,,MK404DW,,BEDFORD, MCFADEN,BERNADETTE,16,,TARQUIN CLOSE,,CV3 3BW,,COVENTRY, MCFADEN,LISA M,6,,CHEPSTOW CLOSE,,S40 2UG,,CHESTERFIELD,DERBYSHIRE MCFADEN,ALEXANDER W S,15,,MAPLE GROVE,,RG264ND,,TADLEY,HAMPSHIRE MCFADEN,MARIA J,3,,AINSDALE CLOSE,01303275709,CT195LU,,FOLKESTONE,KENT MCFADEN,STUART C,3,,AINSDALE CLOSE,01303275709,CT195LU,,FOLKESTONE,KENT MCFADEN,DIANNE,50,,STRICKLAND WAY,,BR6 9UE,,ORPINGTON,KENT MCFADEN,EDITH J,87,,YORKLAND AVENUE,,DA162LG,,WELLING,KENT MCFADEN,DENISE A,70,,CHURCHILL ROAD,,PE9 1JG,,STAMFORD,LINCOLNSHIRE MCFADEN,STEPHEN W,70,,CHURCHILL ROAD,,PE9 1JG,,STAMFORD,LINCOLNSHIRE MCFADEN,GAY D,2,,NAIRN ROAD,,PE9 2YR,,STAMFORD,LINCOLNSHIRE MCFADEN,WILLIAM,2,,NAIRN ROAD,,PE9 2YR,,STAMFORD,LINCOLNSHIRE MCFADEN,DENNIS,,ATHELSTAN HOUSE, FLAT 39,HOMERTON ROAD,,E9 5PH,,LONDON, MCFADEN,ANGELA R,22,,NEIDPATH COURT,,TD1 3RD,TWEEDBANK,GALASHIELS,SELKIRKSHIRE MCFADEN,ALEXANDER S,22,,NEIDPATH COURT,,TD1 3RD,TWEEDBANK,GALASHIELS,SELKIRKSHIRE which includes one Janet McFadden in Brighton whose address I have discretely left out Your best bet would be to try the online Griffiths to trace any McFaddens, McCallums and Browns in County Donegal 1847-1864. People who married generally did so to people living nearby (in Ireland at that time). The McCallums and Browns should still appear in the 1847-1864 Griffiths after the McFaddens left for Scotland after 1839. The 1847-1864 Griffiths valuation has now appeared online in a searchable format at the URL www.otherdays.com. This has opened the field up a lot to a structured computer based search strategy using Civil and RC Parish maps on URL http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/sitemap.htm, modern OS maps available on http://.uk2multimap.com and the old Griffith's Valuation maps available from the www.otherdays.com site. It is possible to use the Otherdays Griffiths for 72 hours on payment of an $8 fee and carry out a search for a person without prior knowledge of the townland, Parish or Barony - just the County. It is also possible to specify a search using variations of the persons name. Enter Burns and a search will be carried out for Burn, Byrne and Burns. The otherdays site also lets you printout copies of the original Griffiths documents. You can search for all the McCallums and Browns and their name variations in County Donegal in the period 1847-1864 who owned land, or more likely rented land. Mike, do any of the books that you have mention a James WRAY, b 1797 @ Co. Donegal? I know very, very little about his family in Ireland, although I know that he did have a brother Alexander. James migrated to America ca 1817, and lived the rest of his life in Philadelphphia. There's s distict possiblity that his family was originally from Scotland. Any help or suggestions would be very welcome! Thank you! Barbara in MO (but originally from NYC.)
Donegal Researchers, REF: Exploring Family Origins in Mountcharles, Inver & Donegal Town by Noel Farrell In addition to the data that Janice has posted to the list, most of the data (1901) for this parish including the TOWN of Mount Charles is on my site with all the census data listed, extracted from the LDS census films.. The 1901 data for this electoral district is being posted but it takes time, I am about 70% completed : Enum/Dist/Barony/Parish/Townland--MountCharles/Banagh/Inver/MountCharles Town. The 1911 census data for the TOWN OF MOUNT CHARLES is also posted, in addition there are also "SELECTED SURNAME" extracts from the 1911 census for other townlands in the same area. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hiflyte/index The above data is also posted at Lindel's site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/ Lindel's site also includes the records of many others who have posted their data to her site. If you are looking for Donegal genealogy data be sure and visit her site. Bob Cdn.
Families may return to a country for a vacation and return with other family. Anna Pohler came to the US ~1885. Her sister, Ida Pohler, traveled alone to join her in ~1889. Ida returned to Germany in March? 1903 and returned, with her husband-to-be, in May 1903. The family traveled in 1923 with two children to Germany and had an extended vacation. When they returned they brought Martha Pohler, a niece of Ida, and Oswald Hartmann, a nephew of Ida. Hello I am trying to trace the marriage of my grandfather and grandmother. Thomas McGowan Annie Patton possibly Ballyshannon maybe in the early 1920s I think their eldest child was my father John James McGowan born 05/10/1924 in Ballyshannon. Any help would be appreciated Thank you Pauline
Jennifer If you have got your research back to the 1600s you have probably done better than many of us. Irish records as you probably know, have suffered over the years and the 1922 fire in the Public Record Office wied out a lot of things that are standard in other countries - wills and censuses being the most obvious. What is left are remnants, as you have found, and secondary sources. You are lucky in that the McKemy /Mackemie is well known in Donegal. One source is the book published in 1908 'In the Days of the Laggan Presbytery' by the Rev Alexander G Lecky This was long before anyone indexed such books but Francis McKemy ,as one of the first Presbyterian ministers sent to America , has a few pages in an Appendix. In lists of the ruling elders from various parishes Francis McKemy and Robert McKemy both appear for Killygarvan (Rathmullan) between 1672 and 1700. The appendix gives no genelogical info but does mention his religious studies and persecution of Protestants at that time. Francis McKemy emigrated to America and was prominent in setting up one of the first Presbyteries in America.in 1706. I don't have the following book but if it includes your family it is helpful Three Hundred Years of Inishowen by Amy Young Again long out of print but like the Laggan books sometimes turn up in used book stores. I searched an index of wills I have but none appear to have survived for your name. One other possible source is land records. Some may have survived but I don't know who the main owner of land around Rathmullan was. Maybe someone else does and you can check PRONI for the records or NLI in Dublin. Rachel Rachel

Hi Aain Everyone I forgot to list the contents of the book. 1889 & 1944- Donegal Town Pubs 1901 Censu Slater's Directory 1894 1911 Census 1934 Thoms Directory 1940 Electors List 1858 Griffins Valuation
This is the source of the book on Donegal and Mountcharles towns. It has Census of 1901 & 1911, voter lists of the 1940 period, plus some local directories. The Census information gives the names, but no details, except occupation. The price to the US is about $16. well worth the money. There are 4 books covering town in Donegal, unfortunately, noe covering my Harkin family area. I bought a copy of Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, which helped me in checking out my mother's side of the family. Click here: Exploring Family Origins in Mike Harkins Columbus, GA

I am searching for ancestors of my 2 gr grandfather, Henry Black, b. 6/8/ 1837 in PA. He died 8/5/1881 in Whitehall, Greene Co., IL. Family Lore states that he was born in Indiana Co., PA and the family is Scots-Irish. Either his parents or grandparents could have come from N. IRE, probably Ulster or Donegal. He married Catheron Jane Silcox in IL. Also searching for the ancestors of my 5 gr grandfather, Christopher Irvine (Irwin, Erwin) b. 1725 in IRE - Derg Bridge. His grandfather, John Irvine was a blacksmith in Londonderry. Have seen pages of the Boyd Book, which does tell of them, but not enough info. Would like to know more about Christopher's father, John, and grandfather, John. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Ceci Walsh --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
