    2. Margo McGonigle Stapleton So glad I could help. After I finish with the 1901 census, I will be posting other data for Donegal. Keep an eye out for them. I do know how hard it is searching for your family. I, too have family I have researched in Donegal. Janice

    1. Re: [DONEGALEIRE] Exploring Family Origins in Mountcharles, Inver & Donegal T...
    2. Janice, thank you for posting the 1901 census for Drumgornan. I think the McGonigles listed therein are quite probably from my family, with the Charles possibly being a younger brother of my g-grandfather who remained in Donegal when his older brothers emigrated. Years ago we met a Charles McGonigle in Donegal Town who said his father was David and his grandfather was Charles, whose brothers (and he used the names of my g-grandfather's brothers) had gone to American in the early 1900's. One of the g-g-uncle's lines has Charles as a recurring name, and there is a David on each side of the family as well. I hope to be able to learn more about those who stayed in Ireland, though it's rather difficult from the west coast of the States, since I'm not able to travel to Donegal myself any more. Anything anyone can tell me about this family would be gratefully received. Margo McGonigle Stapleton

    3. To Sharon - Sorry to be so tardy in replying to your 10-24 letter. I have had a terrible time trying to keep up with my change of email address - not easy to get used to change at age 80 - and I have not found a way to transfer my hundreds of email addresses OR CompuServe 'filiing cabinet', which I was dumb enough not to have copied all to hard disk. To answer your question - it seems that Derryvane is the Townland, consisting of 929 Acres in the Barony of Inishowen West. The Civil Parish is Muff, the Poor Law Union is Londonderry, and the Province is Ulster (even though it is in Co. Donegal). I just noticed that the official record of Samuel and Sarah Porter Wiley's marriage, which I got at Public Records Office of N.Ireland (PRONI), says Samuel C. Wiley. Now I am wondering what the 'C' stands for? Samuel C. Wiley, full age, Bachelor, Farmer, of Derryvane, Muff Sarah Porter, under 21, Spinster, Derryvane, Muff were married 14 May 1847, Parish of Muff, Co. Donegal, Ireland, in the Church of Muff according to rites and ceremonies of the Church of England and Ireland, by me G. W. Stuart in the presence of Isaac Wiley of Derryvane Thomas Wylie L'derry Notice difference in spelling: WILEY and WYLIE Their Bible has WYLIE imprinted in gold. Their Letter of Transfer to the Macedon Church in Wash. Tp., Mercer Co. OH is from 'sister church of Knowhead Ireland', per Macedon Session minutes. Presbyterians ('Dissenters') had to be married officially under auspices of Church of England until -- what date? I've heard, but don't remember. Must quit. It's late. Marg H. "Leigh, Sharon" <slnelson@indiana.edu> wrote: Margaret: I'm not sure which townland? Muff is in but could you check your holdings for a marriage between Samuel Wiley (Wylie) and Sarah Porter, May 14, 1847. I believe it occurred in the Presbyterian church. Thanks. Sharon Leigh slnelson@indiana.edu P.S. I tried sending this to Margaret's address but it came back--maybe she can see it on the list??? ==== DONEGALEIRE Mailing List ==== To browse through the archives of the list go to http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Visit my homepage at http://freepages.genealogy.com/~donegaleire ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 M. 1. [DONEGALEIRE] Haggerty to NJ
    2. Rika & Kevin
    3. I see there is a tradition that the New Jersey Haggerty families came from Donegal, and I was hoping someone here might have some information. New Brunswick, in Somerset (later Middlesex) county had an Irish 'colony' arrive in 1814 & 16 of about 50 people, including Haggertys. My ancestor Daniel first shows up about 1830, and has family ties with both a Patrick and Michael Haggerty. Michael could be a brother; both named children Charles, James, Rosanna, Elizabeth, and Mary. The name Rosanna shows up many times, and there seems to connections between them and later immigrants to the area. I'd love to take them home. Can anyone help? Mahalo and take care, Kevin

My grandfather: James Joseph Dimond b. abt. 1895 MI - - the beautiful handwriting on my mother's b. certificate says "Alphrua, MI" - - but there is no such place--may be Alpena. Don't know where his parents came from or who they are, but they didn't come from the US, as far as I can tell. He died in NJ in abt. 1926--and that's all the info I have. Can't find him in the census anywhere. My grandmother was: Grace Elizabeth McClelland. She was b. 7/3/1899 NYC - - parents, Bernadine Winier of NYC and William McClelland of Londonderry, IRE. He was b. 1871 or 1872--found in a Mormon record of the Irish Birth Registry. His parents were John McClelland and Mary McCool. He died in NJ. Can't find any other records on him. They had a son, Hugh, who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1818, and a daughter Jane who married Daniel Gregg 30 May 1805. They also had sons Isaac and Moses and another son whose name I do not know.

    3. List Members, I often (99%) seem to forget which districts are associated with each county in Ireland when I',m looking at the BMD indexes at the FHC, so decided to make a list of which districts are related to each county. Have added the registration districts for Ireland to my data base at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hiflyte/ Remember many registration districts overlap the boundaries of neighboring Counties. So you may have to look in other districts to find your lost soul.. Also added the 1901 census for the Town of Mount Charles in Donegal . It has all the data from the original census sheets. Enjoy Bob Cdn.
