    1. [DONEGALEIRE] 10332 Genealogy Web Sites at Rootsweb
    2. hiflyte
    3. List Members and Visitors, In response to the msg from RH, obvious he doesn't visit many sites that the various List members post to. Most sites that give us free Web Space for our genealogy data have some form of advertising, either those you see on the page or pop-ups. There are 10332 members that have Free Web Space at Rootsweb and each site has the same basic advertising on it. I agree with Lindel, who would give free space without some form of benefit to the organization, Rootsweb is owned/controlled by Ancestry.com which is a profit making organization. I don't like having the ads on my data pages but again, what else is one to do.. I guess RH never extracts data from ANY of these Genealogy Web Sites donated by Rootsweb. I have found a lot of valueable data on other members sites. So if you don't want the data given freely, don't visit ANY Site that has the format in the URL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~xxxxxxxxxx If people don't visit the various sites what is the point of members spending many hours transcribing the data reformatting it into databases and building the sites. Most of the data on these sites is not available without getting it from the sites such as Scotlands People or going to the FHC centers in your town. The Irish data is even harder to obtain, so to all those who do the transcribing and to those who post these tanscriptions to their sites a Great Big Thanks. You can turn of pop-ups in your browser if they bother you, which I have done. For all our members on the various Lists, there is no real problem with visiting the 10332 sites that have info/data but you do have to put up with the ads. By the way Yahoo Groups also have ads on their pages as do a majority of the free sites. Good luck with your research and keep visiting the members sites. 1. [DONEGALEIRE] Donegal News - ghoulish discovery
    2. Sylvia and Colin Moore
    3. 03 December 2003 MORE than 500 skeletons are being analysed, following a ghoulish discovery near a Donegal resort popular with Ulster holidaymakers. What is believed to be an ancient church and burial ground was uncovered during work on a new by-pass between Bundoran and Ballyshannon. Archaeologists believe the site at Station Road, Ballyshannon, dates back to medieval times, possibly to the Norman invasion. The ancient remains are now being analysed by experts from the company, Irish Archaeological Consultancy. IAC are preparing a report before the remains are passed on to the National Museum of Ireland. It is believed that another 100 skeletons are set to be excavated, in addition to the 500 already discovered. The remains could be reinterred near the original site, or if they appear significant they could be retained by the National Museum for an extended period. A spokesman for Donegal County Council said that along with the skeletons, what appeared to be part of a church and a set of rosary beads had been uncovered. "If this is the case it will be interesting as it will mean that this is a proper burial site of which there is no record locally. "Nationally the site would be fairly typical of a burial from this medieval period, but is quite significant for the Ballyshannon area as there is nothing in local historical records about it," he added. The dig has not delayed work on the by-pass, which is expected to recommence on January 5. Another interesting find along the route of the by-pass indicates possible stone age activity, but the discovery is not uncommon and should be dealt with quickly.

    3. I picked out the name of a book that I wanted recently and thought I read about it on this list. It's "A Local History of Letterkenny" Corrigan Mrs V et al. abt 1980. I can't find it on the web and can't locate it in the Rootsweb email list archives. Is this where I read about it? Does anyone know where I can purchase the book? Thanks!! Kay

    1. [DONEGALEIRE] Fw: Lipsett wills
    2. Tonya Lebo
    3. Hi Does anyone know the address for Dublin and how much it would cost to get a copy of the following wills? Thank you Tonya ----- Original Message ----- From: Tonya Lebo To: Tonya Lebo Sent: Monday, December 01, 2003 8:02 PM Subject: Lipsett wills There is a consolidated index to the period from 1858 -1877. These are to be found on the shelves in the National Archives in Dublin and the Public Records Office in Belfast. After the fire in 1922 the Public Records Office made an attempt to put together something of that which had been lost. To this effect, they requested copies of originals from anyone who would or could supply these, lawyers, families, researchers and so managed to save some of the past. There is a card index in the National Archives in Dublin - alphabetical listing material recovered. Separate card indices exist for those abstracts taken by researchers such as Thrift, Jennings, Crossley and miscellaneous donations and bequests since that time. INDEX (Transcribed by Cathy Joint Labath) {The Diocese of Raphoe includes almost all of County Donegal.} Surname, Firstname (title/status); location; date Lipsett, Anne; Cashel; 1822 Lipsett, Anthony; ; 1845 Lipsett, Lewis; Cashel; 1850 Lipsett, Thomas; Cashel; 1729 Lipsett, William; Cashel; 1817
