Margaret Have you checked out Ellis Island site? There are a few James Doherty's in Malin Head and alot in Donegal. Malin head 1915 age 22 1922 age 6 1911 age 24 1910 age 30 Doesn't look like the ages are right, but maybe these are relatives, since they all came from Malin Head. Next time I'm at the Phila. Archives, I will see if there is a James Doherty in Phila. after 1907. Janice Friel

OOOOOOOOOOOOOP's thanks Tracy.
Trying to locate any information about my Great Uncle James Doherty born 1871 in Ballyhillion, Malin Head, County Donegal. He married Susanna Doherty(born December 23, 1877) of Lougherbraghy, Malin, County Donegal. Parents of James Doherty: Patrick Doherty and Mary Houten Doherty of Ballyhillion, Malin Head County Donegal Parents of Susanna Doherty: Denis Doherty and Kathleen Gallagher Doherty of Lougherbraghy Parents of Kathleen Gallagher: James Gallagher and Grace Gilloway James Doherty and Susanna had a daughter Margaret born in Ballygorman, Malin Head in 1902, and a daughter Hannah born October 29, 1907. They immigrated to Pennsylvania sometime after that. The church records in Malin Head show that Susanna died in Philadelphia but no date is given. I am assuming that they must have lived in Philadelphia. Also some Doherty relatives lived in Braddock, Swissvale and McKeesport. My Great Grandfather Patrick Doherty's brother Denis lived in Braddock and then in the late 1890s or early 1900s moved to Anaconda, Montana. His son Patrick J. Doherty/Doughtery had the following children: Tiny Doherty/Dougherty John Doherty/Dougherty Frank (Pickey)/Dougherty Go raibh maith agat (thank you). Margaret Kristich

Bob Thanks for the encouragement. I too bought the book , but in 1999. I used it in my research for family members. I got thinking that if I found my family here, someone else would find this reference useful, so I dicided to post. Janice USA

Jen, Try this map. In Google type in Touring from Letterkenny and click on Fanad drive. You then see the road as far as Kindrum. Ballyheerin is a few miles from there turning to the west and then south. Alex
There is a reasonable map of the area on the Fanad Web site. Go to Google. Type in Fanad map. Click on Where is Fanad? Look for Kerrykeel and go NW alongside the water and you come to Ballyheerin after about ten miles. If I think of a better one I will let you know. Alex
