    3. Hi Listers Has anyone on the list had any experience of Canadian research. My grandmother's brother, Joseph Benjamin Graham was born in Tyrone in 1881. He died Oct 1960 in Pangman , Saskatchewan Canada. He married an Elsie Compton in 1923 at Eyebrown Sask. They had three children, who don't know when their father emigrated or what port he arrived at. Apparently he was quite a young man when he emigrated. He was a pharmacist and I believe attended University in Canada. He was only back in Ireland once and that was about 1950 when I was quite small but I remember him quite vividly. I don't think his death certificate would help except it gives how long he was in the country. Don't know what informatiion Canadian death certs give so maybe you can enlighten me. We have had snow today, and it is very verrrry cold. Looking forward to hearing from you. Muriel

    3. Dear Patty: So good to hear from you! I very much appreciate the info! I can't wait to pass it along to another Crawford family researcher, living in LaSalle County, Illinois. I hope that your research is going well. I have not done much with mine recently as I have been much involved in other pursuits. It only takes a spark of something, like your email, to excite me about getting deep into it again, though. Take care of yourself and have a lovely holiday season. It has been ages since we spoke regarding our ancestors. In regards to your query....here is the exact extract taken right from the church register in St. Annes, Ballyshannon. 2. Bernadette, first I would go to http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/IRL/DONEGALEIRE.html and go to browse for Nov. & Dec and check my posts and see if they showed up in any other census. You can also check out LDS center and order film for Donegal or townland they are in. I'm sure there are alot of other people on this site like Bob and Lindel who can also help. Go to their web sites and do a search. You could also write the Library in Letterkenny. Janice

    3. Well, that is a lovely message to receive. I especially appreciate hearing that, as you say, "there are no other townlands in the Ballyshannon area which are even close in spelling..." Thank you Pete, and thank you group for considering this question. Happy holidays to all, Jackie -----Original Message----- From: PeteScherm@aol.com [mailto:PeteScherm@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, December 18, 2003 5:54 PM To: DONEGALEIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [DONEGALEIRE] Parishes of Donegal (Book) Jackie at jackie@therapypets.com writes: << The village listed was spelled as Carricknaliorar in Ballyshannon, County Donegal. My question: could this really be Carricknahorna, as Janice writes was the name of one of the villages in Ballyshannon? >> Jackie, I'd vote yes. Firstly, there are no other townlands in the Ballyshannon area which are even close in spelling. Secondly, I think I could create a scenario which could make the two names more similar.....especially, I can see how a tall "l" and a short "i" could merge to become the tall-short letter "h". The last two letters are tougher, but I think we're already close enough to call it "a match". Carricknahorna townland is quite large, at 2337 acres, and lies between 4 and 5 miles NE to ENE of Ballyshannon town, in Kilbarron civil parish.
