Hi Claire, I have copies of the Ordnance Survey Memoirs, don't think the Inishowen list is from that, but then since I can't remember the name of the report I can't be certain. Hopefully my cousin can call Conal Bryne and ask him the name of the report. Beannachtai, Margaret (Mairead) ----- Original Message ----- From: seekay@comcast.net To: conaught2@charter.net ; DONEGALEIRE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, January 15, 2004 10:39 AM Subject: Emigration Lists Margaret (Mairead) said: "There is also a report with many names of people leaving the Inishowen Peninsula for the U.S. I can't remember the name of the report..." Margaret, You may be thinking of the O.S. Memoirs, which vary by parish in how detailed they are, but for some (rare) parishes, there were lists of emigrants included. I have seen these lists extracted and published in other books, so you may have seen them in a secondary source, too. Volume 38 covers Inishowen; for details, see http://www.qub.ac.uk/iis/publications/OrdnanceSurveyMemoirs/Republic/RepublicVol38.htm Hope that helps. Claire K.
Hi Janice, No you didn't mention the Heritage Center. I was correcting something I had posted regarding the passenger lists from the Inishowen Peninsula. At first thought the list was at the Heritage Center on Bishop St. in Derry City. But I relooked at the notes and saw that all it said was Heritage Center Bishop Street. Louise Here you it is. Janice http://www.immigrantships.net/
Does anyone know if passenger records from Moville are available, and where they're available? My McDaids didn't live far from Moville so I'm assuming they emigrated from there. I've been to the town myself, but didn't have time to do that kind of snooping. Thanks, Denise

So, if your Moville people emigrated to the US, the records are in the US National Archives (NARA), by port of arrival and date; many of these records are indexed (smaller ports on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts are indexed together). If your people emigrated from Moville to somewhere in the UK, there is almost certainly no passenger list; you have to rely on other records. Janice, Please send me the URL for the map site. I'm interested especially in the Belfast maps as my wife's father came from Shankill Ward, Belfast. Ernie Nashua, New Hampshire, USA
A lot of ships with Donegal folks left from Moville (on Inishowen peninsula), then went on to Glasgow or London before heading across the Atlantic.

OK everyone. Sorry for the problem. I didn't know there would be a problem and now that I can copy and paste, I will do that in the future. Janice

Do you know what port people from County Donegal would most likely leave from? I heard about 1/2 of the immigrants left from Cobh but that is at the other end of the country. I am trying to find the ship my Baskin family came over on and when. There were no naturalization papers for them in PA which would have really helped. So I'll be trying other ways. Thanks for your help! Louise I think they left from Londonderry. Have you tried the Immigrants Transcribers ships guild, which gives a list of ship and passengers? I will send the census and if you want the ships just let me know. Janice
