Hi list - This is my first posting and I'd like to know if anyone knows anything of a farm called Drumcrowie in the "township of Melin (Malin?)"? Apparently it was owned by a "Mr Harvey" in the early 1700's and that Eliza [Alexander] Fulton moved to that farm after her husband was "killed in the siege of Londonderry". Mr Harvey was said to be somehow related to Eliza Alexander. Would this farm still exist, and if so, would anyone know anything about it's history of ownership? Thanks, Judi Graham
Dear All, When I responded to the question about the location of Drumhome, I apparently over-simplified my response and may have mislead some people. When I wrote "there is no current Drumhome church", I meant to say that there is no current church IN Drumhome. There are obviously RC churches within the parish, but I didn't address that situation. Sorry for being unclear. Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

The civil parish of Drumhome is about a 50-square mile area centered between Donegal and Ballyshannon towns. The old ruined church of Drumhome is at the northern end of Drumhome townland, with a cemetery. But there is no current Drumhome church. The RC parish which corresponds to the civil one is now known as Ballintra RC parish. Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts

Hi Tamy! Those townlands are both in the parish of Kilmacrenan - Tirkillin (there was a Toal Gallagher as head of his household there in 1857) and Gortnalaragh (Brearty, Friel, Gallagher, Hilferty, Kennedy and McLaughlin housegolds in 1857). They're about a mile apart, with Gortnalaragh just south of Termon - both are within about 3 miles west of Kilmacrenan. To Lindel ~ Thanks so much for your very informative answer. Only on a list like this could a question posed in the USA about Ireland be answered by someone in New Zealand :) Much appreciated ~ Tamy
Hello Listers, Can anyone tell me where TARRHALLOAN, Co Donegal is? It is listed as the place the next of kin lives on an Ellis Island record of Toal GALLAGHER, my relative. Also, his wife's obituary lists her birthplace as TERMON-GORTHALARAGH, Co. Donegal. Her first name was Anna, but I don't know her last name. They immigrated to the USA as a family, with 4 children. Thank you, Tamy
Alex at AlexStewart17@aol.com writes: << Diocese of Raphoe, <snip> 1794, Brachey. Can anyone throw any light on where Brachey is, please? >> Alex, You've already received a suggestion from Muriel about the four Brockagh townlands, so I'd like to add my suggestion for the four Breaghy townlands. One of the Breaghy townlands is in Donaghmore civil parish, which is currently in the Diocese of Derry. I don't know about 1794, however. So you have at least seven possibilities. If you'd like more specific locations of these various places, drop me a line. Naturally, it would be nice to also have some other hints as to the part of the county where the mystery townland might be located <gr>. Hi All, I'm looking for information regarding the COTTON surname. Isobelle was born around 1838 somewhere in Donegal. There is a family story of her family having a factory of some kind but I have no details. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Dave Forde-Johnston UK
Hello Alex This could be a mis-spelling - I have the index to town and townland index , Parishes and Baronies and Brachey is not listed. This could be Brockagh, There are four one each in the parishes of Templecrone, Clondahorkey ; Kilteevoge and Taughboyne.
