I must have missed Lindel's address post. Could someone resend please? It is so wonderful to see the beautiful messages from around the world....our donegal ancestors would be so proud of our united efforts. Peace, Cecile, in North Carolina, from the Tunney and Mulhern clans
Hi all, Assuming we will all now scurry to buy and send Lindel cards and cash, I'll suggest that we choose cards with our locales on the cover--or send along a small local token of our area inside our cards to underscore our "worldwide" support for her (a leaf? a stone? a photograph? a pressed flower? a small bag of sand from the beach?). The Irish Diaspora is so spread out, but our ability to come together through Donegaleire to support a countrywoman shows our strength and cohesiveness--and is, in a way, a coming home through coming together for all of us. Hi All, I have had a few requests to organise flowers (which I will do) with offers to send me some money to pay etc etc. Now having just returned from NZ I can tell you that petrol (gas) costs about $1.30 per litre - yes per litre.(about 4 litres to a gallon, the hospital is about a 500 km return trip from the family home and on a road which is not a highway. You can work that out in cost terms. The family is not wealthy by any means. So if anyone wants to do something for them a card with something toward their travel costs would be far better than flowers which last only a little time, or chocolates which last in the box even less time, but in our bodies far longer as fat cells. Just a thought, Bill Spillane
Hi All, A number of suggestions are flying by the group so here goes: Home address: Lindel Bragg 147 Torquay St Kaikoura New Zealand Hospital Address: I personally think the home address would be a better option and the family could get any cards etc down to Lindel but some may not agree so: Lindel Bragg Ward 12 Christchurch Hospital Christchurch New Zealand Chocolates or Flowers: Heaven forbid if we all sent something. The mind boggles (how do you foreigners handly that word?), May I suggest that all who want to do something send a card to the home address. Merle(Mum), Don, Liam, and Conor plus the neighbours would all get a big thrill out of that as well. The family would then get the cards to Lindel. I will arrange a bunch of flowers to go in with Vaughan from all of us "The Donegaleire Group" as soon as possible. Muriel has notified May McClintock thank you Muriel. I think that is all bye for now Bill Spillane in still sunny Sydney
we could use Paypal to send money to anyone in the family that has an email address. They can then withdraw it to their bank account OR have paypal send them a check. Dear Bill, Thank you for letting us know Lindel's latest condition. When her Mom doesn't email I know things must not be very good. Could you give me your address so I can send you a check to help with the cost of the flowers. When Lindel does get better, she is going to really enjoy reading everyone's emails. With everyone's prayers I know Lindel will be back home soon. I'm saying a prayer for Lindel every day and night!!! She is truly an awesome person, through and through, and deserves only the best care and recovery (I've forgot about the "speedy" recovery as it seems to be taking forever!!!) connie comte david city, ne usa
Lindel: You've been such a wonderful source of help and information for me as well, and you can certainly be counted as among the most generous of genealogists. My good wishes and prayers are sent to you, along with sincerest hopes for a quick recovery. Maureen Parker San Antonio, Texas, USA
Have just spoken to my Brother in Law Vaughan who visited Lindel today he says she is certainly one sick girl with a long way to go to get better. She will have family visiting her for the next few days and then he is going to revisit early next week. Lindel has helped me too - finding a Donegal marriage which had eluded us for more years than I can count!! Her generosity and knowledge extend to not just answering your question but adding anything else helpful she knows too!! I feel upset that her condition seems to be in part due to exactly the sort of bungling by our hospitals here which happened to my sister in law - she also had a catheter inserted which ruptured a vital organ and resulted in infection. Once upon a time our hospitals were excellent.....now the staff are so overworked that they can't be efficient.... I sincerely wish Lindel the vitality to overcome this and to make a complete recovery. Best regards and many thanks to you Lindel. Jeanette (NZ)
Hi All,\ Brother in Law just advised that he found Lindel asleep but she woke and talked as he tried to put down the chocolates and leave himself. Best wishes to Lindel, and her family. My thoughts are with you all, wishing you a speedy recovery. Those boys need you, as do we! Lindel to a very generous person of her time and knowledge, and like many other, I have been able to progress on family lines and knowledge in Donegal because of her. She is one of the sledgehammers that help break down those brick walls that we all experience. It is people like Lindel that reaffirm that there are good, kind people out there. God Bless, you deserve his every blessings. Terry Keyes Melbourne, Australia
Dear Lindel, Just want to add my good wishes for a speedy recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with you.June in Whangaparaoa Auckland --------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is so heartening to read all of the emails however a thought has crossed my mind that May McClintock of Letterkenny who corresponds with Lindel and who at last report was not on the internet may not have heard. If there is anyone who knows May would you please let her know what is happening, and report back to us that May knows - it would be appreciated. And if you would also tell May that one of Lindels last projects before going into hospital was to fine tune the Donegal Relief Fund project for me and I collected the CD one month ago when I visited Lindel at Kaikoura, she mentioned that we would be sending a copy to May after a little more fine tuning has been done. As for me, I have a brother in law living in Christchurch who has agreed to visit Lindel today and take her a box of chocolates (which I know she loves) on our behalf. Dear Lindel, Prayers and good wishes for a speedy recovery from Lake Havasu City, AZ. Please get well soon, we all count on you. Long time member of list, Joan B.
Hi Lindel and your family You are in my prayers Between you and Liam (not your son) you set our family on the right track a few years ago to trace our family of DURNING and I have never forgotten your kindness Think positive and all will be well your angels are guarding you just ask them for extra help Bye for now Joy Brisbane Australia
Dear Listers Special prayers for Lindel from Cape Town, South Africa. In the background, I have playing the songs of her kinsman and our compatriot, Daniel O'Donnell, and the sounds of the pipes. May God indeed "walk beside you", every step of the way. Wishing you a good recovery. Dave Mitchell
Margaret, Thanks for keeping us all informed. Is it possible to post the hospital address so we can all send cards? I know we'd love to send chocolates, too, as Bill has had so kindly delivered via his brother-in-law -- but I think that her room would soon be a veritable Willy Wonka factory!! -- so we probably should restrain ourselves. Lindel might enjoy seeing the outpouring of concern, prayers and love coming from all aspects of the globe in cards, especially as she improves! Roseann (San Mateo, California and formerly from Singapore -- where I corresponded with Lindel in basically the same time zone!)
