    3. Just checked my mail to find news of Lindel's illness. Lindel has been an immense help to all of us with site etc. May I echo Carol Queen's message to her with the knowledge that the Doctor's hands are guided by God in helping her recover her strength and that we are all thinking of her and her family at this time. Just keep thinking of the lovely times you have had Lindel and that I am sure will help you get better and knowing you are in everyone's thoughts and prayers. Take care Lindel Eleanor Wright from Manchester, England, researching McElhinney, Speer, Hay in Donegal.

    3. List Members, Have added a small section of births to my site, but have taken a different approach. Extracted all births that had Norton as a spouse of the child's parents. The birth is listed under the surname but the spouse in this case is always Norton. So far I have only extracted surnames beginning with letters A to M. Go to: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hiflyte/ Look under subsection: Odds and Ends The file is wide and will required scrolling to view, it may take a few seconds to load with a modem connection. Hope it helps someone. Bob Cdn

    2. EDWARD D COSTELLO
    3. HELLO JOHN, Welcome to the world of international family genealogy. You should be warned, though, that this world is highly viral; once you get the "bug", so-to-speak, there's no cure; you just have to continually feed it to keep it at bay. With respect to my Co Donegal Haggerty's, I know little. My Ggp's, Peter Haggerty & Nancy McGuire along with his mother Mary, arrived in NB Canada ~1825, then moved on to Maine USA ~1830. If he had siblings or other family in North America or Ireland at that time it is not known to me. USA & Canada records, as yet, have yielded nothing. Present family members have no knowledge of their Co Donegal history. These members have also been to Donegal searching for some trace of them, but without any luck. I've contacted a couple of Co Donegal genealogy society's for information, but to no avail; nothing is known about them. The early 1800's were a little to soon for record keeping in that remote part of Ireland, I guess. Maybe a RCChurch will surface one day and yield all of the Haggerty family history, who knows. Please give me all of the details of your Haggarty experience in both Donegal & the UK. It may give us a lead to other things. You may also wish to join the Hagerty/Hegarty/Donegaleire Rootsweb sites, all 3 are very helpful in spreading the word. Unfortunately, the names that you have mentioned, in your note to me, Hugh Haggarty & Mary McGarvie dont register with me. You mentioned seeing my 1999 website, since then, I've updated it a number of times. The address is noted below. Good luck in your search; I did mention above that it was a viral activity; its also much fun, so have fun as well. Hi all, I know Kerrin's idea looks good and yes I agree with the local card but to include anything else may attract unwanted attention by customs - a great number of envelopes some with foreign objects, a bag of sand could be ...., if you know what I mean. 3. Hi all, Why is it I keep expecting an email from Lindel saying - 'Get back in line - no non-genealogical postings here' ?! I wish her a speedy recovery and I think the first posting about prayer is most essential - We all have our different beliefs and praying for Lindel in our own way is the best thing we can do right now. I write this looking out on a Donegal dusk - it's 10.45 pm here and there is still light. The dawn will start at about 2.30 am so, between us all, the sun will never set on our prayers for Lindel. 1. Cards for Lindel
    2. Lindel has been so helpful to so many of us. My prayers are with her and her family. I though Kerrin's suggestion about sending a card with mention of our locale is a good idea. I bought post cards of the Lehigh Valley PA area (including one with mention of the Molly Maguires!.) to put in with the cards. Also, this is probably a tough time for the little ones. They sometimes get lost in the shuffle and it can be so scary for them. I picked up cards and post cards to mail to them also. Kids love to receive mail so this might also be a good idea. 3. I know this doesn't really help in a practical money sense but an easy way to avoid the extortionate currency conversion charges is to pay a gift token to somewhere like Amazon. There are no charges and Lindel could use the gift for books or other items. She does like her books. I have no connection with Amazon, by the way. Rachel

    2. Bill Spillane
    3. Hello to all, You will be pleased to hear that a free standing bowl of flowers will be delivered to Lindel's bedside tomorrow Thursday with a message attached: "WITH LOVE FROM ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS AT DONEGALEIRE" As regards monetary help a few suggestions have been posted and I talked to a local bank and was informed of the cost of making various transactions, one such was$28 to transfer money into a bank account, not very good unless talking in transfer of $1000s.Damned expensive if $10. At the end of my talk it was suggested that the best way might be for anyone wishing to send smallish sums to buy NZ currency at your local bank and post that currency to Lindel's home - there is a small risk of loss. And I suggest this may be the best way to go. Failing that would be to send notes of your own currency and let the family convert by banking. Maybe someone can come up with a better idea, like pay my fare to go around the world collecting from each of you sweet lovable people. All the best Bill Spillane

    1. Lindel and Kerrin's Idea
    2. Kerrin, I really liked your analogy to the diaspora. I think no matter our age or location, we all have that longing and love for Ireland...and now our love is visible in the outpouring for one of our own countrywomen as you have aptly described our Lindel. To rally 'round Lindel is a way to bring that love to fruition. She represents the best of Ireland -- her courage, her helpfulness, her kindness, her support, her generosity, her family (including us Donegaleires from around the globe). I must say I am so "proud" of and impressed by everyone on the Donegaleire list. Even 'though we don't really know one another in a face-to-face environment, we know each other in our hearts and are bound inextricably to one another. Lindel has been a real catalyst in our coming-together, as you have put it. I have a St. Patrick's medal, purchased in Ireland this past St. Patrick's Day, that is on its way to her. It bears the message which others have already posted in part: An Irish Blessing May the road rise to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand. I'll also send something from California and Singapore, the latter spot where I recently lived and from which I and Lindel in NZ often corresponded in real-time messaging in the nearly-same time zone while a number of our Donegaleire friends were sleeping. 1. Re: [DONEGALEIRE] Lindel -an idea
    2. Bill Spillane
    3. The idea I threw up about helping Lindel's family with travel cost seem acceptable to some. I do not know the cheapest or best way for people scattered around the world to send such a gift so is there anyone out there who could offer a solution to that part of the problem? I have been retired 10 years and am well out of touch with banking practices, maybe a member of the group living in NZ could get in touch with a bank and ask on our behalf how best to do this. And I just remembered that Lindel is on this group address so I have blown it when she sees her emails she may never speak to me again. But I will still love her Bill Spillane
