Question: How and why was my ancestor's name changed when he landed at Ellis Island? Did the inspector at Ellis Island misunderstand what he said? Answer: No Because: The clerks at Ellis Island didn't write down names. So! What happened then? Hi All, Have just phoned the hospital and spoke to Lindel, While she is not feeling real good she believs that she is getting better and looking forward to having the pacemaker replaced as soon as possible. The old one is nearing the end of its life and must go and part of Lindels feeling bad is the fact that the old pacemaker is really not up to it any more. Another part is the mixture of drugs she is getting to stop this and that. Plus she is missing her family as they also are missing her but she said if you can be patient she will be doing more work for everyone soon (no time frame). It was lovely to talk to her and she sends her love and appreciation for everyone's kind thoughts. Bill Spillane
I add my prayers to the rest of the group because even though you don't know me, all us "Irishers" have to stick together...even thousands of miles apart. Periocarditis (well I can say it but not spell it) is something I've had experience with, Lindel. Once you're better you will hardly realize you have it. My mother lived almost 15 years after her diagnosis (81) and died from a totally unrelated problem. So once you're better, you can look forward to a long happy time helping us all here. I will tell you that the medicine she took stopped her from smoking finally because it didn't agree with the cigarettes. I don't remember what it was. But that's just in case you are a smoker. But my mom did quite well inspite of it. Took her meds every day like a good patient and drove my brothers and sisters and I nuts for a long time. God rest her soul. And there is an NHL hockey player and a NBA basketball player who both played with this diagnosis. So..the outlook is good for you especially since you don't have to shoot jumpshots. Meanwhile rest up and try to enjoy the break from your daily labors. Hi All, Phoned :Lindel's home tonight and spoke to Don. They are all still worried as you can imagine but feel Lindel was better yesterday than a week ago. She was very tired but they took her out for an hour and then returned her to the hospital. Don phoned her this morning (Sun) and said he felt guilty as she was sounding so very tired. Lindel received the flowers OK with the message and sends her love to everyone. The present thinking is that she will be there for at least a week but it may well be more. Regards Bill Spillane
I second your sentiment Margo! When I was a 'brand" newbie-it was Lindel who offered her wisdom and got me started by doing some lookup's for me. Those things opened the door! She is one special person and her unselfishness and thoughtfulness are amazing. May she be healthful once more and very soon! How encouraging to hear from Lindel herself, and to know she's feeling somewhat better. Not that looking forward to surgery is good, but if it helps heal her and get her home, it will be worth it, I'm sure. As for this being "off-topic", how could it possibly be, when Lindel is such an important part of this membership? She has helped so many people, including me, that we all feel we actually know her and her family, and her well-being means a lot to us all. Lindel, if you read this, here's a very big hug for you..... {{{{{{{{{{{{{LINDEL}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} from Margo in California
Hi all, Many thanks to Anna who flew down to Christchurch to be with Lindel at this time. An update received from her is passed on to you all. Looking better from where I sit than it did a week ago. Report as at Saturday at 5 PM -- Bill Spillane Hello All (again) I saw Lindel this afternoon. She had been out from the hospital for a few hours with Don, the boys and Merle. She was really tired from the outing. The diagnosis seems to be pericarditis (as Merle told us all in an earlier email), with pneumonia from the collapsed lung. The condition is known as Dressler's syndrome, and is treated with steroid therapy. The steroids kick-in quite quickly and she has had a couple of days without the level of pain that she has had, but she still has a degree of pain. She said they have told her she does not have a pulmonary embolism, which is exceedingly good news. She says thanks for all your warm wishes and prayers, and to say thanks to all those on the mailing list for their good wishes and prayers too. I'll be going back to see her tomorrow, and will probably see her each day this week. She didn't seem to think that she would be heading home to Kaikoura until next weekend. Will keep you all informed Regards Anna
----- Original Message ----- From: <kerr.knight@actrix.co.nz> To: <aileron@tcainternet.com> Sent: Sunday, June 13, 2004 4:25 AM Subject: A Message from Lindel Hi Jerry Lou Lindel Has asked me to send you an email for you to forwarding to the list as I am not subbed to DonegalEire. I saw her today again and she was really tired after her outing yesterday, and I'll be seeing her again tomorrow. If she is well enough, I'll take her out for a little outing on Wednesday or Thursday. Regards Anna From Lindel: "Well, I now have a diagnosis. Dessler's Syndrome which includes pericarditis. I also have collapsed lungs - the base of each, I mean! There is some pneumonia in the left lung. However, I am slowly starting to feel better, and are being well looked after here at the hospital. I still have some more treatment and surgery to 'look forward' to, but hopefully that will be all over soon. I managed to get 2 hours out of the hospital yesterday to spend some time with my children, husband and mother in the 'real world'. I'm still recovering from that, but without doubt, it was worth it. Aside from spending time with my family, I went to an Internet café and accessed my email account. I am totally overwhelmed by your emails - words don't fail me often, but how do I express my sincere thanks to all of you, for your wishes and prayers? I have only been able to read a few of the emails so far - I had no time to sit and read them all unfortunately, but once I am home, I will. What I have read has raised my spirits so much - I didn't realise there were so many of you who cared so much for me! This hobby/obsession of ours and this DonegalEire List have to be the absolute best. Thank you also to Carol Queen for allowing this VERY off-topic thread to continue - you're wonderful too! I read the email about sending me cards and cash, plus gifts. I love to receive your cards, but I'm not comfortable with the thought of receiving cash. Of course it would always be handy, but we are doing okay and your prayers and support are really more than enough! Finally, thank you all for the flowers. The bowl has a beautiful selection flower in pinks, blues and whites. Thank you again Lindel"
I Keep checking my e- mail hoping for encouraging news of Lindel's recovery and I thank Bill, Mairead and everyone else over there who keep us posted. I know what you are going through Lindel, it is six years now since I had my heart attack and opn heart surgery followed by aneurism and mild TIA but I am fine now and I will be 76 next month so I know you can do it. You have helped me so much with my Crossan's and Lynagh's and we capped it off with a Crossan reunion the end of May. There were 73 present and we had a wonderful time. The reunion was in New Jersey and they came from all over, California, Scotland, Canada, New york, and I was there with 3 of my daughters and my granddaughter from Florida. A Grand Auld Time was had by all and a lot of it we owe to you , We are all pulling for you and appreciate the updates. Now I am off to Mass and you can rest assured you will be in my thoughts and prayers. GET WELL SOON. We miss you. Margaret Norman roymar@strato.net
I'd like to say thanks to Bill for keeping us posted on Lindel's progress all this time.I'm glad that the prognosis seems to be hopeful.
