List Members, Irish Census Digitization Project, reply from the Library Archives of Canada (LAC), remember this is a joint project with the National Archives of Ireland, I believe Canada was putting up some of the cash at the front end. I think Kyle's reply will answer most of our questions on the subject. I have Snipped my original email, other than that the reply is intact. This project has been in production for over two years now and at this time much progress is being made. Work is still underway on the databases which contain all of the remaining geographical data and nominal indexes, which will allow you to search for your ancestor by name. The next phase of the digitisation project, comprising counties Antrim, Down and Kerry, will be launched this coming October 2008. The other counties will follow in the order laid out at _http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/about/futureplans.html_ between then and mid-2009. More precise timescales will be posted at _http://www.nationalarchives.ie/census.html_ when available. I encourage you to continue to visit _http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/_ This is where any official announcements will be made in regards to the project and next releases. We are doing our best to work with the National Archives to bring this material online as soon as possible, we understand that there is a great deal of interest for this material to be made available. It is my understanding that the original census records are still available for research at the National Archives in Dublin. For specific information on how to consult these, please contact the National Archives of Ireland directly: _http://www.nationalarchives.ie/contactus/contact.html_ Announcements about the next online releases will also be made on the Library and Archives Canada website, via our "Shamrock and Maple Leaf" web exhibition featured at: _www.collectionscanada.ca/ireland_ <http://www.collectionscanada.ca/ireland>. Related to Irish-Canadian heritage we will also be launching a Grosse Ile Web site soon and encourage you to check back at _www.collectionscanada.ca_ <http://www.collectionscanada.ca> for more information. Nicole, == Does anyone know the location of "Termain (or Termon) House" == Tirmaine House (spelling on map) was (is?) located less than a mile SSW of Clonmany village. There's a problem with the townland boundaries in this congested area on my Townland Index maps, so I can't be sure of the townland. There is currently a building at this same site, located at 373 457 on Discovery map 3, from the Ordnance Survey - and it may be the same building. == Michael's brother Edward built the Glen House. == Glen House, in Straid townland, is located at 358 470, one mile WNW of Clonmany village and about a mile and a quarter NW of Tirmaine House. == I'd also like to know the location of "Ceann Ae House" in Roxtown, Kinnea, Clonmany if it still exists or location is known,. == Ceann Ae House would probably be Kinnea House......but I don't see one on the TI map. However, Rockstown is a settlement within Kinnea townland, and there was a Rockstown House located at 340 480. There is currently a cluster of three or four buildings at this approx. location, and one of them could still exist as Kinnea House. This would be about two and a quarter miles WNW of Clonmany village. == died in Kellogs, Donegal. He was "landlord of Terhoran." == Kellogs would probably be one of four listings for Keeloges townland in Donegal. I don't know about Terhoran, but I can check the four Keeloges for you and see if there is a placename or building named Terhoran or such, in the vicinity. When I get some time, I'll try to verify these "houses" from the six-inch maps at the Donegal library website (www.donegallibrary.ie). All of them would appear on six-inch map number 10. In the meantime, if you have any other questions, drop me a line. But I don't do any genealogy, so don't know anything about records, DNA-testing, etc. [gr]. Dear List, Does anyone know the location of "Termain (or Termon) House" , possibly in Clonmany Parish? It was the home of Owen Doherty and his son, William. Owen was born circa 1772 in Clonmany Parish and was son of Neal Sean Doherty who was born circa 1740 in Roxtown, Kinnea, Clonmany Parish. Neal Sean was a son of my ancestor, Michael Dougherty and his wife, Eleanor Leaning of Clonmany Parish. Michael's brother Edward built the Glen House. I'd also like to know the location of "Ceann Ae House" in Roxtown, Kinnea, Clonmany if it still exists or location is known,. I am hoping to find living male descendents of this line who would be interested in doing DNA testing to confirm or disprove my family's tradition of kinship with the O' Dochartaigh chief's line. Or perhaps some of these lines have already been tested.... Other possible DNA candidates are any living male descendants of Denis Doherty (son of Neal Sean above). Denis was born circa 1770 in Clonmany Parish and died in Kellogs, Donegal. He was "landlord of Terhoran." Also, any living descendants of his brother, Michale Mor Doherty b. circa 1775 who had sons, James Walker Doherty and Micheal Og Doherty. Michael Og had a son, Edward Doherty who had a son, another James Walker Doherty who was born 15 July 1873 Conmany Parish and died 1 Feb 1925 Straid, Clonmany Parish. Any information or leads would be much appreciated. Thanks! Helen Thanks for explaining to everyone. There are a few beginners occasionally that join our list and wouldn't have the knowledge of those facts. Janice In a message dated 7/12/2008 4:13:49 P.M. Hi Julie Came across a couple of bits of info - might be useful for you. I got this from History of Congregations in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. 1610 - 1982. In Fannet Church there is recorded Mr James Marshall ( lic Derry 1802 ) Ordained Feb 17 1808 . Mr Marshall died after 18 years on 1st Dec 1826 then I found in Waterford 1st Presbyterian Church A Mr James Marshall, whose Presbytery of origin is not certain, was ordained on 5th Sept 1798 He resigned his charge in 1825 and died Waterford two years later. If you email the Presbyterian Historical Society they should have more information. http://www.presbyterianhistoryireland.com Muriel

Hi lists, On one of the mailing lists I subscribe too, questions about immigration & citizenship have been coming up often. So, I thought I would do an outline on this topic & post it: Have you searched the Census Records to find out when someone came into the US & whether they were Naturalized or Alien? 1830 Census -- under White Persons: 1. ALIENS - Foreigners not Naturalized. 1900 Census -- under Citizenship: 1. Gives year of Immigration to the US. 2. Number of years in the US. 3. Naturalization. 1910 Census -- under Citizenship: 1. Gives year of Immigration to the US. 2. Whether Naturalized or Alien. 1920 Census -- under Citizenship: 1. Gives year of Immigration to the US. 2. Naturalized or Alien. 3. If Naturalized, year of naturalization 1930 Census -- under Citizenship: 1. Gives year of Immigration to the US. 2. Naturalized or Alien. The above info will help you find out when someone entered the US & whether they became a citizen! Helen M.
