    3. Hi Michelle, We didn't stay in any cottages in Ireland (time too limited) but did do that in a couple of places in Britain. We found this very economical and convenient, especially with a hire car and a plan of where we were going. Some big days but it was great to have a base to come back to and not have to keep packing and unpacking all week. We would just decide if we would cook for ourselves or go to a pub (pubs won most of the time). The only problem I had with the cottages was that they had to be Saturday to Saturday which we didn't necessarily want to do and had to adapt to. Had to have one very big day of driving to get from one to the other. Jenny. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of M & T Sent: Monday, 6 October 2008 11:50 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: Re: [DONEGALEIRE] lfuture trip to Ireland with children Dear Listers what a wonderful group of people you are!!! 3. Congratulations on actually seeing the Ring of Kerry. The day Mum & I did the Dingle Peninsular it was shrouded in fog. Mum still hasn't seen Connor Pass (that was her second attempt). But it was interesting none the less, and very atmospheric. We were told the Ring of Kerry was the same that day. Donegal was great, especially Donegal town and the friendly locals. The guided tour of the castle was one of the best we did anywhere but the fellow we asked directions from was also one of the highlights. Ended up giving him a lift (he assured us he wasn't a murderer). The hostel we stayed in was also great. Only disappointment was not actually finding any genealogical information, but still worth going back. A very nice town. 3. Or the ones, accompanied by a detailed map sketched in your notebook, that tell you to drive through town, turn right, then left then ask someone else for further directions (lest you get confused); but before you get to town you see a sign to your destination (pointing left). Throwing caution to the wind in this situation, we followed the sign and got to our destination. Goodness knows what interesting things we missed out on by not following the directions but as we had just spent 26 hours in transit and had one thing on our agenda for our first day we weren't in the right frame of mind to take the chance. 3. Hi I had the good fortune this year to be able to spend a week in Ireland with someone who, like me, enjoys driving. Each morning we sort of aimed in the right direction and came across many R roads we labeled these 'AH get lost' roads which we invariably did. This gave us some of the most spectacular scenery and many things we would have missed. Ireland is in deed a beautifully country. We ended up, of course, in Donegal Town for what we consider to be the warmest welcome. Roll on next year for my annual dose of Ireland. Pat
