    1. [DONEGALEIRE] Glencolumbkille and Kilcar Parishes
    2. Lindel
    3. Hello again! Thanks to an amazing group of people, there is a wealth of information available for those two Parishes. The online records for each, as well as what will soon be online, are located at - Glencolumbkille Parish - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/glencoklesproj.htm Kilcar Parish - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/kilcarproj.htm I also have the complete 1911 census for both parishes and these will be added once I finish transcribing the 1901 census for Kilcar Parish. If anyone has anything they would like to contribute to the pages, it would all be welcome - these could be photographs, headstone inscriptions, short family stories/histories, links to other websites containing information on any of the parishes, and details of research interests in the parishes, which I could add to the list of researchers. 2. hiflyte
    3. The Griffith's Valuation for County Donegal sorted by Surname has been on my site for a number of years. Recently I redid the database, sorting it into individual Parishes then sorting each parish by Surname, Given and Townlands. Then inserted each file into new pages on the Website. The Griffith's Valuation (GV) for county Donegal consists of 48393 entries. Hope the new files assist those looking for people during the 1858 recording year. 1. [DONEGALEIRE] James McLaughlin, poet and writer of folk songs.
    2. James McLaughlin, born 1825 in Meenalooban (Moneylooban), Donegal, to Denis McLaughlin, was the brother of my gggrandmother, Bridget Devine, nee McLaughlin. A distant relative has sent me some more details of the probate of James's Will, and the newspaper article about his funeral. I already knew that he had gone to America in 1850 where he spent six months in Pennsylvania. He then returned to Ireland, where he lived for six years in Lisfort before returning to the USA, where he settled in Skaneateles, NY, after spending a couple of years in Iowa. He was a farmer (the farm was called Mandana) and never married. He died in 1910, reputed to be the wealthiest farmer around Skaneateles. What interests me is that the newspaper report refers to him as a poet and famous writer of folk songs,, and says that 'many of his folk songs are being sung in many of the inland districts of Ireland today(1910).' Does anyone on the List know of a collection of Irish folk songs or any kind of centre for Irish culture in Donegal where I might make further enquiries? It would be interesting to find out more about James, who sounded like quite a character. Apparently, among other eccentricities, he refused to buy clothing made in US and wore suits he brought from Ireland, or had clothes made up to the same pattern. I know looking for a specific McLaughlin in Donegal is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but this one may have left his mark if any of his songs/poems have survived. Carolyn

Free Anti Virus program (also no connection to this organization just a user) AVG Download centre: http://free.avg.com/ Bob Cdn ------------------------------------------ Below is a <SNIPPED> version of the email received this AM on the final release. ... It has been an exciting journey since the early beginning with the first beta of the Secunia PSI back in 2007. We have received thousands and thousands of feedback emails with praising words and suggestions for the Secunia PSI - and with this letter we would like to thank all who have helped us evolve and develop the Secunia PSI. Today, version 1.0 has been released and we can look back at a development history with more than 750.000 Beta users, who provided Secunia with extensive and invaluable feedback - ensuring the final product to be as good as possible! Back in 2007, the idea with the Secunia PSI was basically to: * Make it possible for all PC users to secure the programs on their PCs * Raise awareness about the need for patching insecure programs * Provide the users a single point with all relevant security information and patches * Provide Enterprise grade vulnerability scanning to private users With 7 releases of the Secunia PSI, a staggering user-base of more than 750.000 users, tons of articles, and users praising the Secunia PSI - we believe we have made a pretty good start! Secunia PSI history: July 2007: PSI public Beta gained over 100.000 users in just two months December 2007: PSI Release Candidate 1 (RC1) January 2008: PSI reaches 250.000 installations May 2008: PSI RC2, more than 500.000 installations June 2008: PSI RC3 October 2008: PSI RC4, more than 750.000 installations In the last version, we have implemented a new concept - a "Simple" and an "Advanced" user interface. The "Simple" user interface makes it simple for all users to secure programs against security threats while the "Advanced" interface offers full in-depth technical details about each of the programs found on your PC. "Advanced" is what you are used to working with and we encourage you to keep on doing so. The "Simple" user interface is designed for users, who do not normally install and patch software, thus making it easy for all users to stay secure! Furthermore, the final release increases the focus on security and the security threats posed by each of the insecure programs installed on your PC. The Secunia Advisory criticality rating is shown directly in the Secunia PSI for each of the insecure programs found.....

    2. Good Luck Janice Friel ...Passing over twenty years, during which there was a constant stream of emigration from Ireland to America, I find another interesting document chronicled under date of May, 1751: “One hundred and fifty Passengers, including 50 Irish Servants (many of them Catholics who were bound as Servants before the Lord Mayor of Dublin) sailed for Philadelphia, on board the Homer, Captain John Slade, Commander.” The list of names is not complete, owing to damp, but I have made out the following as among those who sailed on the Homer from Dublin, in May, 1751: John O’ Toole, Thomas Cassidy, James Fennell, James O’Neill, James Hickey, Edward Doran, John Callaghan, Catherine Cullen, Eleanor Cody, John Connery, Catherine Lawler, William Coffey, John Slattery, Philip MacNeill, Giles Power, Anne Connolly. **************One site has it all. 3. Hello Boyd & List. I have gone into the Fermanagh Gold archives, and copied and pasted the relevant portions of the postings on the above problem. Sorry that they take up a bit of space. I have tried to edit them heavily. Hopefully this might help some people. AND I need all the clues that I can get, as this is a big issue for me, with lots of rejects. Ray in oz. Hi Cliff Have you received my off line reply? Comcast don't like us down here in NZ and Australia and block our mail! Murray Christchurch New Zealand >From the List's great Admin: Good time to mention it folks. I didn't know that comcast blocked your mail from OZ. My default mail server is comcast.net. >From Cliff: I've got Comcast and have had no problems receiving emails from down-under. It may be that the recipients have some other software on their cpu's that is the culprit :-) >From the original poster: Hi Cliff I thought that it was just me, but I've raised it on other lists and many down here in both NZ and Oz are affected. I communicate regularly with a number of Comcast users and between us we have managed to get Comcast to unblock the mail a number of times, but it rapidly re-blocks it. Replying to a message with the same subject header repeated seems to trigger the re-block. Others report the same issue. >From a different poster: based in Oz: I also attempted a reply to Murray to his Email address and was bounced. My message was not through Comcast. I'd suggest that the fault lies with his provider. Barry Melbourne, Australia I used to have that problem when emailing a distant cousin in the USA who used Comcast. It was something to do with the IP-address my emails were being assigned through the Internet Service Provider (ISP) (optusnet.com.au). It was a little more complicated then that, but beyond my understanding. I understand that due to the way things happen the dynamic IP of my emails caused Comcast's SPAM filters to suspect that the IP address associated to my emails was a possible SPAM source and so blocked my emails. You have to somehow get your ISP to get Comcast to take the IP address off their blocked list. However, because some cable connections generate new dynamic IP at least every 3 months, this could be an ongoing issue. My US cousin had an additional email address other then Comcast and we have been using that for some time now without been blocked. Bernard Brisbane, Australia My (Ray's)contribution on Ferm. Gold: Just to support Murray on this to both Cliff and Don --- I have occasionally tried to REPLY to your list e-mails off-list; and have had them immediately rejected. I hadn't made the comcast connection until Murray mentioned it. Just thought that it was MY problem; and gave up on each occasion. BUT occasionally my messages have got through to your personal e-mail addresses. Cannot recall now if I might have changed the subject line for them or not. Final thought from Ray: MY internet provider is also optusnet; so it seems that what Bernard has written above, must have considerable bearing on the situation. 2. Hi Ray, I am glad I am not the only person in the entire world who cannot email Eva or indeed lots of others on comcast. I did some seminars/lectures for her when she organised the O'Doherty reunuion in Donegal this summer and have never been able to contact her at comcast! So, please tell us what the problem is as per the discussions on the Fermanagh list. Hello Eva. Thank you for this clarification. (Tried to thank you off-list, but it was rejected by your comcast server -- we have had some recent discussion on this issue on Fermanagh-Gold). Apologies to the list for therefore imposing my thanks on here. ray ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eva Doherty Gremmert" <[email protected]> Ray > It is not surname specific, but rather is a family history society > that is being formed in the Derry City area and they chose Foyle as a > location designation. > Eva When replying to a digest post, quote only the specific text to which you are replying, removing the rest of the digest from your reply. 3. Apologies again to the list, rejected by comcast. NO Eva, I did not mean rejections of your postings; I meant that some of us have experienced ongoing rejections when we sent a note to anyone on comcast. That is why I am unable to reply to you privately.
