Hello everyone, It's good to be back up and able to have someplace to come to for assistance in all matters Donauschwaben! I am looking for help in information as to what hotels may have been booked in Kitchener for the Landestreffen Labor Day weekend. I went to the website but it was down so maybe this is info they are working on. Does anyone from one of the clubs have information they can share. Also wondering if anyone knows the date of the Philly one in 2019, I seem to recall it wasn't Labor Day weekend last time it was there. Eve -- Syrmia Regional Coordinator http://www.dvhh.org/syrmia
The Schwaben Club is on King St. E., halfway between Fairview Park Mall and downtown Kitchener. There are several options for downtown Kitchener, so if you find something there, you should be fine. Eve, If you search on "hotels near Schwaban Club Kitchener" on google.ca you will find many in several different price ranges. Not sure which ones will be suggested/recommended by Landestreffen https://www.google.ca/search?source=hp&ei=R2ehWvf6DeKu0gKSvrvYDA&q=hotels+near+schwaben+club+kitchener&oq=hotels+near+schwaben+club+kitchener&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.0i22i30k1.2255.17349.0.21834.39.19.1.18.19.0.587.4706.2-8j1j4j1.15.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..5.34.5805.6..0j35i39k1j0i67k1j0i131k1j0i131i67k1j0i20i263k1j33i22i29i30k1.226.iajJ5qMHdLo Tony ________________________________ From: Eve <[email protected]> Sent: March 8, 2018 10:45 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [DVHH] Kitchener Landestreffen/Hotels Hello everyone, It's good to be back up and able to have someplace to come to for assistance in all matters Donauschwaben! From personal experience/family experiences, here's a few comments: - Holiday Inn & Best Western in the Fairview Rd/King , St/Weber St vicinity, south of the Schwaben Club - have stayed at these a few times over the years, but not recently, both were good - Kitchener Inn - used to be a Hilton Garden Inn, one of my favourite chains, but changed over about a year ago, have not stayed there since, although at the time, the staff told me that the same management company was running it, just different computers and software - Knights Inn, Sherwood Motel -- read the TripAdvisor reviews, wouldn't stay here - Best Western on Weber St, northwest of the Schwaben Club, the rooms were nice, a little small but ok, a diner-type restaurant on-site, the outside is old-looking and the parking lot is uneven, so access to those drive-up patio doors was a little strange - I have mobility issues, so this was a little difficult, but I would stay here again - Howard Johnson, Kitchener Conestoga - read the TripAdvisor reviews, 4 family members stayed here and would not do so again - lots of the name brand hotels, like Delta, Radisson, Courtyard by Marriott, Homewood Suites, etc - also some local gems like the Walper Terrace if you're into heritage type properties St. Jacob's is a major tourist attraction, just north of Kitchener, along with Elmira if you like farmer's markets, Mennonite businesses and sites. Staying south of the Hwy 7/8 interchanage keeps you fairly close to Hwy 401 for leaving. There are lots of cute, little towns in the area that have bed & Breakfasts; also Stratford, world-renewed for the Stratford Festival, incuding Shakespeare and other plays/performances, just about 45 minutes west of Kitchener. Hotels/motels/B&Bs are pricey here. Depends how long you want to stay in the area and what you want to do. Toronto is about an hour east on the 401 if you want the big city and Niagara Falls is about an hour and a half south. So no shortage of other places to spend time before and after. Niagara Falls is pricey too, especially on holiday weekends. I'm pretty sure the Schwaben Club will have deals with some of the local accomodation choices. Thanks everyone for the ideas, I am wondering which clubs have "blocked" rooms for this particular event. Usually I can get them off the clubs website, but they are updating it right now. Darlene, do you plan to attend? Anyone else?
