Helga, I was trying to get restitution for my mother as well but was lead to understand that this program had expired. Do you or anyone else know more about it and how to accomplish this if it is still a possibility? O.K. I am going to post a little something and I am not sure if you all know but just in case - We all have a file number and fortunately I was able to obtain mine. I was able to call my file number up on the internet, and since I cannot read, write, in Serbian or in the old script of the language, I had to give it to someone else to decipher. The file is still sitting with the restitution committee and I doubt anyone will even look at it. However............There were errors on my claim. My paternal grandmother was listed as born in Kosovo in a town similar to Krushivjle, Batschka (Vovodina). It just so happens that she was born in Ridjica, Batschka which is a few km from Krushivjle. Batschka. My MATERNAL grandmother which has nothing to do with the claim was born in Krushivjle and lived there until she came to Canada in the 1920's. How on earth does this happen. It doesn't make sense. Where would this information come from??????? A request was made to the committee and they were asked to correct it. I haven't dared look as I am afraid, but I will!!! I firmly believe that had a request not been made, it would have been thrown out. Apparently I was told that their clerical staff made the error. Hello????? How does this happen. Also the Serbian Consulate in Toronto, Ontario gave me a run around while on the phone. When I went down with my documents for them to stamp they were refused because I did not use a lawyer recommended by them. Well, they never told me in the first place to use one of their lawyers. It was the worst day of my life dealing with them and I was totally, totally stressed. You can`t believe what he he was putting me through. Then he wanted me to come back to him and after I showed him what he requested, and then afterwards, I was to go downtown to the other Serbian Embassy. I telephoned the Serbian Embassy in Ottawa and spoke to a nice lady that was sympathetic. She connected me to the office of the chief. I left a message, and of course he never returned my phone call. I will continue to fight on regardless of any decision.
