    1. [DVHH] Oral history project in Waterloo Region - about 15 spots left

    3. Hi everyone, I¹ve been lurking ever so quietly for a long time now, so I do feel somewhat guilty that I only jump in to advertise for this oral history project. We¹ve got about 15 spots left (and if we go over, that¹s even better) before we stop interviewing after Christmas. The oral history project focuses on families who¹ve immigrated from Europe, come from a German cultural background (so Donauschwaben would be included) and somehow contributed to Waterloo Region here in Ontario, Canada (just west of Toronto). So we¹re looking for either immigrants themselves or their children (who¹d now be adults). The project doesn¹t refer just to the war/post-war generation. I even interviewed a young baker in his 30s who came here. Full details are on our website: http://wcgs.ca. Just click on the left on ³Oral History Project.² I¹ve started translating some of the interviews, and they are very interesting. The breadth of experiences of German/Austrian immigrants is incredible. (Swiss is also included in the scope of the project, but so far as I know, no one of German-Swiss heritage has volunteered yet.) Interesting tidbit: I¹m the only one who offered to transcribe two DS interviews because others found the dialect to be really difficult :) So I can¹t wait to do those ones (they¹re next on my list). Anyways, if you¹re interested in participating, you can contact me at work below. We can also do phone interviews if you (or your parents) no longer live in Waterloo Region. You¹d just need to be comfortable chatting on the phone, of course :) I likely won¹t be the one doing the interview, though I have done a couple of them. Interviewers are usually trained graduate students and once in a while a faculty member. I hope everyone has a nice week! Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions at all.
