Thank you very much for your help Jugoslava! Message: 1 Date: Tue, 5 Aug 2014 12:17:44 +0200 From: jugoslava <yugaya@gmail.com> Subject: [DVHH] 2. Rollcall: GERICH/Baja + BUKL/Baja (Mark Gerich) To: donauschwaben-villages@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <CAFZ5PR5MQ+PFgksRHYt=ui+do9=O9vHZB+QtJcmR30yU_S4p=g@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 1. Working back into the past: obtaining one generation further into the past is fairly easy - based on the original birth records of the children from 1875. and 1873. who were born as legitimate and names of the parents. - Istv?n GERICH and Alojzia PUKLI were married in Baja in year 1868. Their record may not be indexed and available on familysearch because this marriage was recorded in separate set of military marriages records . Original marriage record lists his regimental information, their age and names of their parents, and states that they were both born in Baja. Working further into the past is a big task, there are six parishes of records to go through in Baja town alone. I suggest that you register for Kalocsa diocese e-archive: http://archivum.asztrik.hu/?q=en/oldal/registration and set aside a substantial amount of time to go through them and plan your research in detail. Due to to surnames and first names that were recorded in Hungarian, Latin and Croatian language spellings, and especially changes in surname spelling, you must be very thorough and document all variants and possibilities. Stephanus = Istv?n Gerich = Gerity = Gerits = Geritz = Gerics = Gerits =... Keep in mind that due to additional regulations and permits needed for active soldiers to marry many of the children were born and registered as illegitimate before parents managed to get married. Baja parishes have separate records for children who were born out of wedlock, and often there are later date notes in the original records, so you will need to search the birth records for children registered under maiden surname of the mother as well. Records available for Roman Catholic Church in Baja cover the period 1722-1968. 2. For Aloysia Bukl: you need to find her birth and baptism record and document all variants of the surname. Baptism records of her children, indexes of these baptism records, her marriage record and the index of marriage records all have differences in surname spelling: BUKL PUKL BUKLI PUKLI 3. Consider the possibilities that family was not Donauschwaben and/or that they were not originally Roman Catholic when you research earlier origin of GERICH family from Baja. *** Jugoslava Ilankovic "Rodoslovlje" Serbian Genealogy Society researcher
