    3. Hello Rose, What a treasure! The articles on the feast days and customs of the DS in Hungary are most interesting. Some were celebrated in Syrmia as well. With our people going through so much poverty and stress after the war it is no wonder that they could not be kept up. I remember ( in my younger years) going to the Schwaben Club in Toronto when they had an annual Traubenfest or Weinfest , a Faschings Ball and Schlachtfest. Before there even was a Schwabenclub (1950s) we attended many celebrations and dances at the St. Patrick’s church hall. One year Father Kroetsch told us that some of the other priests admonished him for planning to have alcohol available at the new year’s eve dance (with quite a few minors). Alcohol was available anyway and there were no ‘drunks’ in at the celebration. We went there for the fun, not to get drunk. I don’t know if they still have those or anything similar. Memories are made of this.. Anne, in finally sunny and warm Ontario
