Hello fellow listers. I'm not sure what to make of this. Last week I received by regular mail, a letter suggesting that I might be the sole surviving heir of an individual who died without a will and left a sizable account in the UK. The letter (which bore no official letterhead) claims that the originator is a "chartered accountant" and "independent auditor" in the UK, and suggests that the recipient of the letter has been identified through some preliminary research as a potential heir. Based on the nature and some unusual wording in the letter, I am highly skeptical of its validity. Since the surname of the deceased is that of a Schwob, I was wondering if others on the DVHH list might have received a similar letter. Hans
I've received a few of this type of email promising big money (alarm bells should go off immediately) from this source or that, though not any listing a German surname. Sounds like a scam to me. That definately sounds like a scam to me Hans. If you do a google search on "Inheritance Scams from the UK" you will be surprised what pops up! Those scams are usually done by Nigerians pretending to be in another country. Please don't fall for it. http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/protect-yourself/inheritance-fraud https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=A0LEVz7akm5TUx0AtNpXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEzYnYza281BHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkA1ZJUDI4Ml8x?qid=20090710142103AAZEz7d http://www.moneywise.co.uk/scams-rip-offs/scams/watch-out-inheritance-scam http://www.fraudguides.com/consumer-inheritance-scam.asp Daniela Ivkovic Showley -----Original Message----- From: John Haumann <haumann@earthlink.net> To: DVHH Donauschwaben <donauschwaben-villages@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sat, May 10, 2014 2:23 pm Subject: [DVHH] possible inheritance scam Hello fellow listers. John, If it sounds too good to be true, it isn't true! There are many bad people out there in cyber space ... always be vigilant.
