    1. [DVHH] Orczyfalva Info
    2. Julie Hammitt
    3. Hello, I am trying to follow the instructions to look up the Mormon information on family or.com and am running into a difficulty. After I go to search, catalog, Orczfalva, I don't know where to go next. The directions that someone posted say to keep clicking until I find that sentence until you can read the records online. But that is where I get lost. Can someone give me more detailed instructions from this point please? Thanks, Julie Sent from my iPad > On Jul 7, 2014, at 1:00 AM, donauschwaben-villages-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > > > To respond to a Digest Mode message, click reply, CHANGE THE SUBJECT LINE TO REFLECT THE TOPIC - then delete any postings/text not specific to the message you are responding to. If you are traveling with a Serb, that can be very helpful! But with only one day, maybe it's better to visit Heufeld only, unless your Serbian guide can arrange the Romanian visit for you and make it easy. Hopefully your Serb guide will make it possible to visit the villages without any suspicion. When I traveled alone there, a few people were helpful, but many seemed wary of contact with me--this was in St. Hubert, which is nearby Heufeld. It may have been the language barrier, but there was also a clear "these are Germanic types searching for their ancestors" kind of thing going on. It was a very tense time there, however, and I can say that for the most part it seemed like good people there, living under a difficult situation. > > > Sadly, most of the cemeteries are either completely gone, or are in ruins where you might find an occasional headstone exposed. That was 20+ years ago, and maybe the situation is worse now. I would strongly advise you to find early maps of Heufeld and Neuberg to see the house numbers, as I'm pretty sure nothing will correspond to current addresses. But you will probably find the house not much different than when your ancestors were there! Maybe you can find a map in a family book, or someone on this list can perhaps assist you with the old layout of the town. > > > Okay, that's just some general idea...good luck! > Bill Knuttel > Napa > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Rita Schiwanowitsch <schiwanore@msn.com> > To: gmcopeland <gmcopeland@aol.com>; donauschwaben-villages <donauschwaben-villages@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sun, Jul 6, 2014 5:40 am > Subject: Re: [DVHH] [DS] Traveling to Serbia and visitng Heufeld and Neuberg an der Bega > > > Hi Gwen, > > The people on this list are most helpful. 3. Marty -- I took a few minutes to give you an idea of what I could find in the W&K .... I have not found Isadore ... but that is probably because he came later or was born in the Banat. Two early Stadler's who arrived in 1766 are: Johann Ferdinand Stadler p. 75 -- von (of) herberding aus dem (out of) Luxembourg Johann Stadler p. 72 - von (of) Dueibelspach aus of (out of) the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation I have not researched these locations ... spellings are as best as I could read in the old script. There are three more I will check later: Mathias p. 273; Paul p. 153; Thomas p. 148 I know this is not what you were looking for ... but it is an idea of where this clan came from. Yes, I've been there. Anna, nee Buchmann, and Isador are my relatives. The Buchmanns I have back to the late 17th century in the Rhine-Pfatz. The problem is Isador. Where did he come from? The oral history from my aunt was that he lived "on the other side of the mountain" from Deta before marrying Anna Buchmann. Looking at the topographical maps from Google, I can see hills but no mountains and Orczyfalva seems to be over one of these hills. There is also the family rumor that he or his family were Jewish and converted to Catholicism to avoid any antisemitism. Since I have so little to go on, I do not ask for specific help because I feel it would be too much to ask when I can only "shotgun" around. So I read as much as I can find so that I can ask more specific questions. BTW, there are no Stadlers in the Anton Kraemer family book for Deta. I credit that information as coming from Dave Dreyer. 3. Susan, Thank you for the information. I have very little information about Isador, just birth date (1875) and marriage date (1903). I was "cold" contacted years ago by someone in Romania that claimed to be able to get a copy of the marriage certificate from records in Detta. He wrote Isador's parents were Marton and Rozalia. I was hesitant to pay for this information. The names fit the family though, one of Isador's children were named Rozalia and another Martin (hence my given name). The rest if their children had given names matching Anna's direct relatives. I've been at this brick wall for years. When my wife retires, I plan on visiting Detta to see for myself what I can find out. 3. Hi All Listers, I am looking for any info on the town of Deutschsanktmichael (also know as Nemetszentmihaly, Zilasch, sanmihaiu) in Romania .( At one time I think Austria-Hungary) Maps, pictures, records, house # and location. My grandparents and Mother are from there. BRATAN, JUNGER, KOST, LEIMETTER, FRESZ so I would like to get as much info about the town as I can. Also BRATAN in Vizejdia(Wiseschdia) any info about there or about them. Also BRATAN (BRATTAN) in Vojtek(voiteg) and info about there or them I am not sure where any of the families are from before Deutschsanktmichael. Except for BRATAN. I would be very thankful for anything or anyone could contribute. I figure if I get more info on the towns, it might lead me somewhere. Thanks, Barb D.

    3. Hello, I have an email in German. It's from a Hans Repp. He has a Familienbuch on my Grandmother's village Klek. His first email was short and I think I read it correctly along with names and dates of my Grandmother's family. I used a translator and got the general message. He was nice enough to send only the information I needed from his CD. Not of all the records were in his first email. So he sent me another meassage with more information. My second message from him is longer. Is there someone that would translate this for me? Thanks, Jean Hagen

    1. Re: [DVHH] [DS] Traveling to Serbia and visitng Heufeld and Neuberg an der Bega
    2. Gwen, I haven't been in Serbia for many years (since the time just before the revolution in the early 90s, I think it was). Some members are made the trip there also and can give you better advise on the specific areas you are looking for. My families are near the Pancevo area much closer to Belgrade. The people on this list may even be able to give you better advise on house numbers as some of the villages have old maps available. 3. Thanks to all for responding. He has been most helpful. Marty On Sun, Jul 6, 2014 at 10:01 AM, Susan Sander <swan1200@hotmail.com> wrote: > Not sure if you have seen Dave Dreyer's manifest list. 3. Happy to possibly help someone. Orczyfalva is particularly hard to research because of the lack of later records necessary to make connections. You mention the name Stadler .... where have you searched prior to this. Have you looked for manifests, etc.? I don't remember seeing any posts regarding this surname. It's worth a try as there are many helpers on this list. 3. Hi Gwen, The people on this list are most helpful. Some members are made the trip there also and can give you better advise on the specific areas you are looking for. My families are near the Pancevo area much closer to Belgrade. The people on this list may even be able to give you better advise on house numbers as some of the villages have old maps available. I will forward you questions to this list in hopes of better responses for you. Hopefully they will respond to you directly.... instead of on the list. I suddenly find myself traveling to Serbia shortly, and am able to spend one day up near the Romanian border, near Kikinda. I have a Belgrade youth willing to bring me there at my request. My problem is that I've been out of my genealogy research for so long, that this sudden trip has caught me off guard, and I'm not sure where to tell him to take me. Any advice? > > > > Here is what I remember: > > Great Grandfather, Chrisof BUERGER is from Nagy Tozeg/Heufeld (out of Matias BUERGER and Magdalena NOEL) > > Great Grandmother, Magdelene KLINGER is from Ujvar/Neuberg an der Bega, (d. of Jacob KLINGER and Ana ZAHRINGER) > > Magdalena was born in house 28, which is where her grandfather also passed. > > > > Is it an easy trip to visit both towns (one in Serbia and one in Romania?) > > How can I find where house 28 was in Neuberg an der Bega, so I can try and see it today? > > Where are the german cemeteries for these cities?
