    1. [DVHH] Lookup
    2. Gary Huber via
    3. My father’s name was Anton Albert Huber, born December 10, 1911 in Pike, NH. USA. His Father’s name was Anton Huber. My father’s mother was Philippina Huber, maiden name Juhn. They were Lutheran. Anton, my grandfather, came here (Ellis Island) from N Banovci on the ship, Kaiserin Auguste Victoria, the arrival date was Aug. 31, 1907. His wife Philippina Huber first arrived on Nov. 09, 1909. Her ship was Ultonia. Note: her first name was spelled incorrectly on the manifest as Filpina. Her address on this travel was Damores, Hungary. She arrived with her son Heinrich 4 and daughter Elisabeth 3. She had to return with Heinrich because he was sick. Although it shows hospital discharged on the manifest. She returned to Ellis Island with her sister Katarina Juhn on Jan 26, 1910 and moved to Pike, NH. They later settled in Holyoke, Mass. and are in the census there from 1910 to 1930. Her last known address in Hungary was in N Banovci, so I am assuming that the mention of Damores, Hungary may have been incorrect. I would like to know my grandfather and grandmother’s parents names and any information that could be found on them and their ancestors. I would also like to know any information that could be found on Heinrich Huber. Thank you very much in advance. Yours truly, Gary Huber

    2. Gary Huber via
    3. 1. I think that 1. is myself and that 2 is my Father and 3 my Mother and from there 4 is my Grandfather and 5 is my Grandmother on my father’s side. Is this correct? 2. Is there an area for brothers and sisters? 3. My Mother’s family is from Canada and France so they would not apply to this organization, correct? Best regards, Gary Huber

    1. [DVHH] 2. Rollcall: GERICH/Baja + BUKL/Baja (Mark Gerich)
    2. jugoslava via
    3. 1. Working back into the past: obtaining one generation further into the past is fairly easy - based on the original birth records of the children from 1875. and 1873. who were born as legitimate and names of the parents. - István GERICH and Alojzia PUKLI were married in Baja in year 1868. Their record may not be indexed and available on familysearch because this marriage was recorded in separate set of military marriages records . Original marriage record lists his regimental information, their age and names of their parents, and states that they were both born in Baja. Working further into the past is a big task, there are six parishes of records to go through in Baja town alone. I suggest that you register for Kalocsa diocese e-archive: http://archivum.asztrik.hu/?q=en/oldal/registration and set aside a substantial amount of time to go through them and plan your research in detail. Due to to surnames and first names that were recorded in Hungarian, Latin and Croatian language spellings, and especially changes in surname spelling, you must be very thorough and document all variants and possibilities. Stephanus = István Gerich = Gerity = Gerits = Geritz = Gerics = Gerits =... Keep in mind that due to additional regulations and permits needed for active soldiers to marry many of the children were born and registered as illegitimate before parents managed to get married. Baja parishes have separate records for children who were born out of wedlock, and often there are later date notes in the original records, so you will need to search the birth records for children registered under maiden surname of the mother as well. Records available for Roman Catholic Church in Baja cover the period 1722-1968. 2. For Aloysia Bukl: you need to find her birth and baptism record and document all variants of the surname. Baptism records of her children, indexes of these baptism records, her marriage record and the index of marriage records all have differences in surname spelling: BUKL PUKL BUKLI PUKLI 3. Consider the possibilities that family was not Donauschwaben and/or that they were not originally Roman Catholic when you research earlier origin of GERICH family from Baja. *** Jugoslava Ilankovic "Rodoslovlje" Serbian Genealogy Society researcher 2. 1. [DVHH] Rollcall: GERICH/Baja + BUKL/Baja
    2. Mark Gerich via
    3. Hello! I've traced my surname to my great-grandfather, Johann (Joannes) Gerich, who was born in Baja on 12/24/1875 according to family records. He married Anna Demeny (sp?) in Budapest 02/25/1900. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1902. In Hungarian Catholic Church records that I found on ancestry.com, it says that his parents were Stephanus Gerich and Aloysia Bukl. He may have had a sister named Eva Gerich (b. 12/20/1873 to Stephanus Gerich and Aloysia Pukli). I haven't been able to find anything else about Stephanus or Aloysia using ancestry.com. I'm very interested in any information that would: 1. Help me work back from Stephanus Gerich either in Baja or other towns 2. Clarify the surname of Stephanus' spouse, Aloysia. I'm not certain that Bukl is correct 3. Comment on early Gerich migrants (was there one? many?) and where they first lived (Filipowa?) and/or where they came from (north Baden, I suspect)? Much obliged, Mark Gerich

    3. I am looking for information on a Jost/Yost/Joszt family from this area.  I do not know the parents names & the information I have on the 4 children is not much.  I have 4 children supposedly: 1. Pauline - born ? 2. Nicolaus - born abt 1882 3. Maria (Mary) - born abt 1884 - taken from U.S. Census.  She married Joseph Putz &           settled in Croswell, Michigan 4. Jacob - born 18 Jan. 1887.  His birthdate is taken from his WWI Registration card & it is      there that he states he was born in Katalinfalva.  He married Marianna Heckenberger in     Chicago & they lived most of their lives in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Any help in finding this family would be greatly appreciated. Judy Ottinger Michigan

I'm the oldest one left in my Kaiser family so for me it's important to be able to pass on my family history to my daughter. I do not intend to offend or anger anyone. I am merely trying to gain understanding of what is was like for my Opa as a pow having a part in the "war of the desert" as I have not lived through war. I remember my Mother enjoyed receiving mail in her later years. Anni is a year younger than my Mom and had totally different lives at age 20. I sent the note over a week ago and she responded quickly. I read her story and it's hard to imagine such treatment. Why is it we never heard of these atrocities? Some of my family knew of them, communication? I went on to read other stories. I started this search because of my Mother. She passed away two years ago. She was 90 and first generation. She really didn't know a lot about her ancestry, only where my Grandmother was from and we never knew her Dad's village or her Grandparents. I found his village through naturalization records. It would have been so much easier to ask my Grandmother and Grandfather these questions. My Grandmother is from Klek and Grandfather Cesko Selo, both in Serbia. I have found records for Grandma but I'll keep on trying for Grandpa. Jean > Hi Jean, > > How is Anni? How kind of you to send her a card. 3. The song is one of very few touchy, almost happy childhood memories that I have of WWII (as described on page 23 of my book "My journey from the Banat to Canada"). It was the theme song of Soldatensender Belgrad, the Yugoslavian radio station occupied at the time by the German army. I heard it on one of the few battery-powered radios in a village that had no electricity. It was many years later that I found out that it had become the favourite song of the Afrikakorps as well as their British opponents. Even today you can listen to its haunting melody on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdGwKt0tzgA&feature=related Best regards Nick Tullius -----Original Message----- From: donauschwaben-villages-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:donauschwaben-villages-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Tina Michel via Sent: 31-Jul-14 23:34 To: Amanda Kaiser; Gary Banzhaf Cc: donauschwaben-villages@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [DVHH] Banaters & Afrika Korps Mandy, This is is in regards to your question on Lili Marleen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lili_Marleen. 3. Here are some stories from the German side of WW II that are being posted by descendants of German soldiers, some of them Nazi, that are coming through my Donauschwaben genealogy link (Grandma Sommer's research link connecting me to Transylvania).  Start reading the last and scroll finally to the top letter.   You can fell the courage it is taking some of the researchers to post this after finding upon the death of a parent or grandparents they were Nazis.  Chilling indeed.  Makes for very interesting reading.  Marcus, now that you have been in the big main Battle of the Bulge you 'feel' it even more.  If you don't have time to read them now, save them until later.  Mom/Dar On Thursday, July 31, 2014 7:49 PM, Amanda Kaiser via <donauschwaben-villages@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > >Yes it is very interesting!
