Hi A bit of history There was no Russian Zone in the thirties. The zone in Germany and Austria came in existence At the end of the Second World War. When our parents were released from Russian slave labor duty at the end of 5 years they were released to Hof-Moschendorf in East Germany. However if they had relatives in the West they were allowed to go there. I have the Kerescher from Gakowa, too and was able to trace back the family until about 1660. I am still in the process of translating the book "Unvergessenes Kischker" (Unforgotten Kischker), which includes the "Settlement Patent" as put forward by Joseph II prior to the third Swabian migration.  The following is my translation of it: “I, Joseph, the chosen King of the Roman Empire, eternal provider for the kingdom, King of Hungary, Bohemia, Galicia and Lodomeria, etc., by the grace of God, do hereby announce to all the people that we possess many unoccupied lands in the Kingdoms of Hungary, Galicia and Lodomeria which we intend to settle with German citizens from the region of the upper Rhine.  It is to this end, by virtue of the power of my royal birthright, that I promise to the many thousands of required agricultural and professional families of the kingdom that choose to undertake this venture of emigration:One:  Complete and utter intellectual and religious freedom, and to provide the resources required to achieve these ends.Two:  A new spacious house, the design of which shall be appropriate to the region, with an adjoining garden, for each family.Three:  Farm labourers, who will be required by every family that possesses agricultural land, as well as the necessary working animals and livestock and the farm equipment and household tools, will be provided.Four:  Craftsmen, tradesmen and labourers will be provided with all household tools, but for those tools required for their trade, 50 Gulden will be paid for the purchase of these.Five:  The eldest son of every family shall be forever exempt from military service.Six:  Every family shall be provided free transport plus travel expenses from Vienna to their settlement village.  Further funding will be provided until such time that the family becomes self-sufficient.  However, if after this time a family suffers an unforeseen accident or setback, up to three years of additional support shall be forthcoming.Seven:  Should any settler become ill during transit or as a result of a change of climate or due to any other reason, everything possible will be done to return the individual, as quickly as possible, to their original state of health.  If necessary, hospitalization with the best of care shall be provided at no charge.Eight:  Finally, for ten years from the first day of your colonization, your freedom is guaranteed and during this time also be exempt of all property and government taxes and fees.  After these ten years, you will be obligated to establish a mandatory taxation process typical for the region.Verification of the intent of this document and the resolve to ensure its authenticity is hereby demonstrated by the affixing of my seal bearing “K.K.”So enacted in Vienna on the day of the twenty first of September, seventeen hundred and eighty two.  Our Roman kingdom in the nineteenth, the Hungarian and Bohemian in the second. Hi Lilien Moragy was settled primarily by families from the Palatinate (Pfalz) and were of the Reformed confession. The church records are online with the Family History Centre in Salt Lake City. Prior to the Edict of Toleration there are numerous entries for families from Moragy in the Roman Catholic records in Bonyhad, the Lutheran church records in Kismanyok and some in the Bikal Roman Catholic records. The Moragy church records begin shortly after 1784. Happy hunting... There has been some discussion on other mailing lists about some Rootsweb mailing lists being inoperative for the past couple of weeks. I can't speak to other lists, but the DVHH mailing list has been operational the entire time. The mailing lists are on several servers - we are on server #9 and we have been live. My best quess is that not all the servers are live. Some functionality is missing on the administration side (stuff I use) and also the ARCHIVES link doesn't work, but we are able to send and receive posts. I have written one of the list members privately regarding a specific problem he was having and it is rectified.
