Hello Hummerhaven, never read your mail before, but the group - whole group - sure will read you lines like I have read them this morning. Presently harsh opinions seem to be going on withhin DVHH. One against all and all against one. Biased? - do not know the other word I ment to say, vocabulary escapes at my age and because of it my posts are limited. My bottom line: let go, or like the beatles said "let it be." Hello again all, I am now trying to find more information on another line of my ancestors. JOHANN SCHMIDT and MARGARETHA BOHN were married in Csatád/Lenauheim, 4 Feb 1827. The online OSB for Lenauheim lists them but has no further information than their marriage and six children. Could someone with access to the newer version of the Lenauheim FB please look them up and let me know if there is any newer information? They should be family # 5792. I would like to learn their birth and death data and their ancestry if available. Thank you Stewart G.
Rita, I was moved by those beautiful words: "Amongst the farmers, there was no need to hate people that were different, and never has been. They lived feely next to one another, each speaking their own language and seeing to their own needs. And found it very natural that their neighbors, who spoke another language, did the same." Thank you for sharing and for the translation. Hate does terrible things to our bodies and minds while love enriches all parts of us. I heartily agree with your words, Henry, and fully appreciate the responsibilities of Rose's position. There was something I read at the Donauschwaben Museum in Ulm.... a quotation from Bela Bartok... that stuck me as good words to try to live by. I feel this may be the time to share these words again..... "Bei dem Bauern gibt es keine spur von grimmigen Hass gegen andere Volker und hat es nie gegeben. Meant for the list, in hopes of tranquillity in future postings. Valuable and knowledgeable administration of this organisation has been ongoing. I also wish to praise them for their collective diligence and forbearance, when persons such as myself, who had no prior knowledge of some of their background, can go to the home pages and learn so much. I hope this time my original message below, comes through to the whole group. Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android
I really am sorry I did not send this to the whole group originally as I intended.
I meant my remarks to the whole group and hope sincerely that no personal offense is taken. "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me..." is one of my favorite hymns.
Hi Joe this is strictly for you. No one in this group has forgotten the holocaust and no Donauschwabe can be blamed for it. However, we should not forget the holocaust committed on the Donauschwaben during the post war year of 1944-1948 by the Serbian Tito Partisans where one third of our population perished. It is my guess you have not be a part of it. But I was and I saw and experienced it along with many survivors. You should go out and help us make this part of our history know to the world in the name of all that rest in the many massgraves. Pease Joe your criticism was over the top and very unfair. Joe, I'm really disappointed in you and to call us close minded and racist - denying the holocaust. I'm not even going to answer to any of this - it IS pure stupidity. I don't understand why you want to stir up as much controversy as you seem so insistent in doing. This has nothing to do with helping others learn anything but more hate and I don't think there is anyone on the list interested in that. What I feel is that this is a closed minded and racist group, denying the holocaust and shwovish involvement in it. To exclude an informed voice of reason who would discuss these issues openly and objectively simply proves it. To all, sorry coming into this late, Joe knows how I feel about some of his comments and as far as posting to the list - I would be the guilty party here as I've tried to encourage everyone to be open with their comments so others can learn - However, I agree with Jody (and Henry and Rose) that some things have gone above and beyond and if Joe does not feel he is Donauschwaben or Danube Swabian - then he belongs somewhere else. I want people to debate different opinions and hash things out, but this thing has truly gotten to be too much and a little too filled with anger and hate (I am talking with you Joe) and I really tried to stress being kind and considerate and that means respecting others on this mail list. Probably the easiest way to figure it out is if we provide rhymes. Shwobe rhymes with earlobe. My problem with spelling it as Schwob, which is sort of the Germanic way is that as an English speaker I think of “school” and then pronounce it to rhyme and sound identical with “squab” and that seem very unfortunate to me. I wonder if that is what you do, and did anyone else think that? Rita, You wrote . . . " Rose... I think you really meant this to be a private scolding. Publically berating someone makes everyone uncomfortable." That comment made me feel uncomfortable, not Rose's. Your comment is no different than what you're accusing Rose of. And why is it okay for anyone to make any comment, as often as they like, -- except administrators? That sounds 2 sided. All this nonsense needs to stop, now. This is not what this list is all about. We don't need the strife or bad feelings. Let's get back to what we are here for. Anyone need help with research?
