    3. The DVHH village list shows a Sanmartin 28 miles SW of Timisoara. However, I have maps that show a Sanktmartin west of Simand and Sintana in Arad. In the new Stader book IX it mentions Werners in Sanktmartin and Schimand and I believe it to be the Arad villages. Does anyone have any clues? Thanks, Susanne Werner

My great grandmother, Anna Esterman, died last year at 104. However, she was an Esterman marriage. Her father, my great-grandfather, was Charles Esterman. His father was Adam Ester man who was born in Bruckenau in 1886. His father Peter, was born in the 1850s. I don’t have much information that goes back further than that. In some of my research I have come across records of Germans from the Banat with the name Esterman who emigrated to Chicago. I am not sure if they are related to the same Esterman family I am descended from, but the name is not very common and I assume so. In any event, I see that you had been collecting information on descendants of volksdeutsche and I thought I’d reach out. Unfortunately, the names has now died out in my family with the death of my great-grandmother but there are many of us still under other names in New York (I am the only one who moved to California). My aunt maintains most of the family records including our family bible, records, and a few photographs that my great-great grandfather brought with him from Bruckenau. I have come across a few other Estermans who were more assimilated. They thought they were Hungarians, but I tried to explain how it is easy to make that mistake by passenger lists that list country of origin as Hungary or Austria-Hungary and sometimes Romania depending upon the year of emigration and where the Banat was politically at the time. When they shared their documents it shows the town names with the German spellings, so I assume they were also Germans from Banat. I hope this email finds you well.
