    3. I asked the researcher Staša Cvetković from Novi Sad for help, because I could find no information about reformed church books from Novi Sad. He told me, that the priest‘s daughter took the books with her when she escaped in 1944 and many years later denied to return them to Serbia. I googled a lot but could find no information, if these books still exist and if, where they could be. I also tried to contact diverse reformed church communities from the area with no success. This makes this part of my family tree to a very dead end. I can only suggest a few directions of this (my only protestant) line with the help of DNA matches. 1. Re: [DVHH] ROLL CALL - Dietrich - Schneider-Schmidt
    2. Kelly Dazet
    3. Hi Dan, Thank you! I had quite a bit of help from Mr. Jokob Götz, the Werbass Village Coordinator with my Schmidt ancestors -- actually the Dietrich and Schneiders as well. He was able to help me trace my Schmidts to Thalfang, Pflaz. Ludwig Schmidt emigrated to Werbass with children. His first wife died in Thalfang. He married Margareta Becker in Werbass. The family emigrated to Freudental, Grossliebental District of Odessa about 1806. They were Lutheran. There seems to be very little information about the Schneiders. I only know from the Neuburg Church Book Death record for my 2 x great grandmother, Katharina Elisabetha Schneider that she was born in Tscherwenka about 1799. Her Parents were Peter and Margaretha Schneider born 1770 place unkown. The family was Lutheran. Karl Stumpp says that came from Joehlingen near Karlsruhe. Burt the emigration records I found say that Peter Schneider went to the Crimea about 1808 and was probably Catholic. Joehlingen is/was as I understand, a mostly catholic town. Johann Dietrich, my 3 x great grandfather's first appearance that we have found was in the 1812 census where he was record as living in Neuburg, Grossliebental District of Odessa, South Russia (now Ukraine) with 3 chrildren and wife Katharina. His oldest son, Jakob according to his church book death record was born in Kischker, Hungary in 1793. The family was Lutheran. As you may know, there were 2 Dietrich familys that arrived in Kischer about 1786 and many generations lived there until 1945. One family, that of Johann Nikolaus Dietrich came from Hirschfeld (Kleinich Parish) Hunsrück, Pflaz. The other family was of Valentin Dietrich of Mariental, Pfalz. However, Lorenz in his book "Unforgettable Kischker" mentions a third family, of Michael Dietrich of Hirschfeld who he says was the brother of Nikolaus. But my research found that he was a cousin. He came with a wife Maria Gertraud Hoffmann and two sons Johann Matthias and Johann Burghard who was the age of my 3 x great grandfather Johann born 1769. The family doesn't show up in either of the two family books for Kischker, so presumably they left. My research found Johann Burghard marrying a Catholic girl in Kula, Christina Querin. The Querins are listed as one of the first families in Kischker, but were one of 10 Catholic families that later moved away. The Querins apparently to Kula. After reading the letter form Kaiser Joseph II, and reading how much it cost the empire per colonist I began to wonder if my Schmidt, Schneider and Dietrich families were in debt to the rulers and were among those who left in the middle of night for greener pastures in South Russia. There were quite a few. Of course if I could find any church or civil records for Kischker for 1786 to 1806 and for Neuburg 1806 to 1833, my research would be so much easier! Michael Dietrich was a "Hirt" (herder) so he may have moved around the Batschka from town to town. Just a guess. 3. Hi It is very unfortunately that so many records were lost. When we were marched off to death camps the Catholic Diocese went to the Catholic Churches and saved the record. Which where also microfilmed by the Mormons. Did the Lutheran and Reformed Churches did the same? If so your best source would be the Mormons.
