Tenlytown, Arlington etc. It is odd that in the late 1960 and early 1970s, my father lived off Military road, on 47th st I think. His back yard touched Glebe Read Park, quite near the Donaldson park. As we would tun the corn off Military he would tell me that this was all once farmland that his family owned. The Payne Donaldson side. John Donaldson Payne then married Louisa Hall. Her aunt Mary Hall owned what is now Marymount University and the Washington Country Club. Mary Hall bought the adjoining farm land from the Birch family. Mary's brother Basil Hall had Birch's as inlaws (Mother in law Columbia Birch Harrison) Elizabeth Donaldson was born in the 1820 and married Charles Worthington Payne, they had 10 children and she came from the family that had an orchard in Donaldson Park off Marcey Road.
