Posted on: DONALDSON Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/d/o/DONALDSON/queries/10040 Surname: IRISH DONALDSON ------------------------- Dear Bruce Even though your John and Andrew cannot be the same as mine (my John was born in Ireland in 1840), I think that the fact that Donaldson is not a very common 19th century Irish name, does give us a bit of hope that it is likely there is a common family base to our ancestors. It may well be that as our John's are at the most two generations apart, that one was named after another and so forth for Andrew and indeed Thomas (my John had a son called Thomas born 1887)! Seems a huge coincidence if I'm wrong, but if you can email me through a family tree file that you have, I can do the same and we can examine the trees 'like for like'. I have been unable to find anything on my Donaldson's previous to their arrival in England (Manchester) so this is very exciting. Possibly we have the makings of a Donaldson Clan. Let me know what you think. Ceri
