Seeking information on DONELSON, John & Elizabeth parents of Henry Donelson, as noted on his death certificate place of their birth is noted as Germany and information was given by his widow. Henry's death certificate states he was born in Philadelphia and had lived in Salem County, NJ for over 50 years. Henry was born 1835, died 1902. Henry was a Civil War veteran and his surname is spelled Donelson, Donaldson, Donnelson, and Donnilson on the bonds paid to his wife Harriet Roork Donelson. Since she couldn't write, it didn't matter to her how they spelled it, so long as she got her money. Even the roster papers are inconsistent, however Donelson is the most prevalent spelling at present in our branch(es) of the family. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
