I have a James Donaldson who bought land in Marlboro Co.,SC from William Pledger ca. 1832, and he was listed in the records as being 'of New York City'. There were Donaldson family members around that area of South Carolina from an early time (John, Sr. (father) , William, Peter, JOhn ,Jr. ca. 1763) and wondered if any of them went to New York to live (1781, after the death of JOhn, Sr.) raised families there, and later one of them decided to return to the area.
