The following may be of interest to someone doing research on Donaldson's from South Armagh. Extracts from a census list, Alex Donaldson, William Donaldson father of Col. Donaldson and widow Donaldson. All in Crossmaglen Area. In Freeduff area was Samuel Donaldson. In the Gortamlet area was Hugh Donaldson, In the Tullyvallen area Elizabeth Donaldson. The following Donaldson's were listed as Church Wardens in Creggan Church of Ireland. All the Donaldson's were Presbyterian & it is odd that they were members in this church but maybe for political reasons they were. In 1738 Randal Donaldson the person who leased all the land to our Donaldson's listed, in 1742 Alex Donaldson is listed, in 1752 William is listed, in 1760 Samuel, in 1762 Hugh, 1764 Joseph, in 1796 William Donaldson Jr., in 1804 Joseph Jr. in 1806 John, in 1807 William, in 1814 John, in 1821.22 & 23 Joseph, 1830 Samuel & Alex, in 1831 Alex, in 1850 Richard, in 1896/1901/07/13/22/24/26/28 & 1936 John. The following are inscriptions from Creggan Graveyard, "Here lies the body of Alex Donaldson of Cloghog, Co. Armagh, formerly of Phillipstown, Co. Louth who died 22 Jan 1776 aged 86 years & of his wife Alice Donaldson who died 24 Aug. 1769 aged 82years & of Richard Donaldson MD whose father Joesph Donaldson was a grandson of the said Alex Donaldson; he died 4th March 1879 aged 54" This next inscription seems to have some connection to a Donaldson family, "Sacred to the memory of Thomas Bell of Killin, Co. Louth formerly of Druminnis Co. Armagh born 13 Feb. 1775 died 24 Feb. 1868; Eliza Bell formerly Charleton his wife born 4 June 1801 died 21 June 1873; & their children Eliza Bell born 4 March 1833 died 23 May 1892; Isabella Bell born 20 July 1828 died 9 march 1908 Leonard Gillespie Bell born 11 Sept 1826 died 13 Feby 1911; Jane Alicia Bell born 6 June 1831 died 30 Nov. 1914; Dorothea Bell born Sept 1825 died 9 Feb 1917.
