Posted on: DONALDSON Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/d/o/DONALDSON/queries/28 Surname: Donaldson, McCoy, Shur, Stuck ------------------------- Looking for information on the family of Samuel McCoy and Jane Donaldson. I believe they were from Pennsylvania, but probably came from Ireland or Scotland originally. Their son, James Donaldson McCoy was born in 1830, location unknown, but likely Pennsylvania. He married Anna Maria Shur (sp?) in Lisbon, Columbiana County, Ohio on August 29, 1851. They died in Ohio (James -- 1905, Anna -- 1904), probably in Jefferson County, Ohio. Their children were probably all born in Ohio and were: i. RICHARD GILSON MCCOY, b. June 11, 1852. ii. AMELIA ELIZABETH MCCOY, b. May 06, 1854; m. WILLIAM KLINE. iii. LOUISE CATHARINE MCCOY, b. April 24, 1856. iv. HANNA ESTALLA MCCOY, b. November 23, 1858; m. ? VANDINE. v. MARY FLORENCE MCCOY, b. August 28, 1861; m. CLARK GILCHRIST. vi. JOHN FRANKLIN MCCOY, b. July 25, 1863. vii. THOMAS ELLSWORTH MCCOY, b. September 30, 1866. viii. SAMUEL EUGENE MCCOY, b. May 07, 1869, Ohio; d. December 23, 1941, Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio. m. LOUISA STUCK ix. ANNA ELDORA MCCOY, b. December 07, 1871. m. ? MCGAUGH x. ROSE RUPERTA MCCOY, b. March 12, 1873. xi. JAMES ALEXANDRA MCCOY, b. December 27, 1876. Any leads on this line would be appreciated.
For those of you who have a James Donaldson in your family line, I ran across a " James Donaldson of the City of New York buying land in Marlboro Co., SC in 1832 from Mary Ann Pledger of Texas" There were a lot of Pledgers in Marlboro Co at that time. And a few Donaldsons. This Pledger lady may have just migrated out to Texas with her husband or family from South Carolina and was selling her inheritance. (Speculation) This Donaldson man may have been connected to the Donaldson family from an earlier time. I have a John Donaldson who had three children, named in his Will of 1781, probated in NC. Two of the children disappeared from the records. William and Peter. The third son, John, stayed in the area and moved back across the state line to SC where his descendants still live. The senior Donaldson's wife's name was Sarah. This may help when looking at names of children.
