Hi everyone, I am trying to trace my Grandmothers sisters family. They left Australia in the early 1940's. My Grandmothers name was Eileen Heron nee Salsbury. Her sister is Martha Jean (known as Jean) Donaldson nee Salsbury. I think Jean was born about 1919 in Mackay Qld Australia. She married Donald Donaldson. I have a letter written by Jean to my Grandmother in 1948. At that time they were living at 20 Ain Revet Rd Alberton Downs Alberton NY. Their son Donald jnr was 3 at the time, so he would have been born in Sep 1945. Donald snr was working for Life magazine and had been there a year. If anyone can help me with information on this family, it would be much appreciated. Terri Taylor
Does anyone out there have any information about Joseph Wallace Donaldson born 1817 in South Carolina and died sometime after 1870 in I think Mississippi. He married Ruth A. Hill born 1820 in South Carolina and also died sometime after 1870. There were 10 children that I am aware of: daughter M.J. born 1847 in South Carolina, son William Andrew born 1849 in Tishomingo County, Miss & died Nov 25, 1929 in Spring Hill, Miss, a son James H. born April 28, 1851 in Tishomingo County, Miss & died Feb 15, 1937 in Tishomingo, daughter J.L. born 1853 in Mississippi, daughter Sally E. born 1855 Miss & died in Texas, Joseph F. Donaldson born 1857 in Miss & died in Okl, daughter Louise V. born 1859 in Miss & died in Miss, daughter Emma E. born 1862 in Miss & died in Texas, and last Thomas (or Thadeous) Espa born Dec 8, 1866 in Itawambi County, Miss & died Feb 1, 1959 in DeQueen, Ark. I am trying to determine the ancestors of the father Joseph Wallace & his wife Ruth. Also the second wife of Espa. They had two children together (we aren't sure they ever married) a son Sabaska Thadeous, and a daughter Gwendolyn. He was married to another woman (Martha Ann {Mattie} Tesseneer at the time these two children were born.
It has been a while since I posted, but thought I would try again. I have a John DONALDSON, who was born in England in 1745 according to his Rev. War records on file in the SC Archives. He was living in the Old Cheraws District (now Chesterfield Co.,SC) during 1775 with a wife named Sarah. He was also listed as being a merchant. He bought a lot of land during the war in Richmond Co.,NC, a stone's throw from where he lived and moved there during the war. He died in Richmond Co.,NC and left a will in 1781 naming his wife and three sons, Peter, William and John. Sarah remarried a Daniel Hicks, sold most of her husband's land and by 1786 had left the area with her sons Peter and William. John Donaldson, Jr. stayed in the area. I am trying to find Sarah and her other two sons, Peter and William. Any leads appreciated. Thank you. Joanne H. N.C.
Since it appears that Patrick Donaldson and Lucy Pettit were parents of Sarah Donaldson who married Robert Donaldson in Clark Co.Ky. May 09,1796 and it has been said that they were cousins, who were parents of Robert Donaldson who migrated to Missouri ca 1820? If anyone has siblings of Patrick(who was killed Strode's Station Ky) I would appreciate any data on that line. Patrick married Lucy Pettit November 27,1764 in York Co.Pa, and prior to going to Kentucky they were in Berkley Co. Va.(now WV) He is also said to have been born County Armaugh ,Ireland. Finding more on Patrick's family will help to place Robert. Confusing but fun to have two Donaldson lines. Marion Donaldson
Hi Ann, My Donaldsons were from Ireland and settled in Kittanning around 1790 then spread out to other communities. There is a Donaldson web site where you might get help. DONALDSON-L@rootsweb.com There were Donaldsons in Fayette Co and Washington Co, PA. I searched my files and did not find your side. I remember reading somewhere of the Donaldsons you mentioned in the Revolution. Do not remember exactly where? Sorry. Donaldson is like the name Smith in number in Scotland since it is a English corruption of McDonald. The McDonald's of Scotland was the largest clan and early businessmen of the area. However, their neighbors called them cattle thieves. John Donaldson
Hello, Donaldson list! I am searching for information on my Donaldsons from the Missouri area. There was a Eugene Donaldson, son of Jeddodiah Donaldson (Jed was the son of Andrew Cooper Donaldson) and Eugene was my great grandfather. Eugene married Mary Jane Alderson and their son Donald Donaldson was born around 1895-1900 (approx) Their were other children in this family: Ashley who died as a child in OK (?) and there was a Russell Donaldson who was Donald's brother. Also there was Nadine, Vera and I think a couple more sisters. Do any of you on the list have any connections with these folks? I would love to learn more about my grandfather's family, forward or backwards. I believe Andrew Cooper Donaldson's father was Robert Donaldson, who married Jannie Witt, but I do not know where he was from, or if he was born in England or Scotland. Does anyone know? I am mystified :) Thanks for any help! and Merry Christmas to you all. all the best, pd

Good hearing back from you. My Donaldson and Lockhart lines are limited to what I have been able to find to try to connect to my great grandmother Lily Lockhart. If everything connects properly the line looks like the following: 1. Robert Lockhart b. c 1810 Arbuthnot, Kincardine, Scotland d. bef 1890 ??? m. Janet Donaldson b. c.1812 Arbuthnot, Kincardine, Scotland 11/15/1834 d. bef 1910 ??? Dunfirmline, Fife, Scotland 2. Isabella Lockhart b. 10/27/1835 Dunfirmline, Scotland Lucy Lockhart b. 5/10/1841 Dunfirmline, Scotland Robert Lockhart, Jr. b. c 1845 Dunfirmline, Scotland Carrie Lockhart b. c 1847 Elizabeth Wallace Lockhart b. 4/2/1850 Dunfirmline, Scotland m. William Bruce b. 8/12/1847 Arbuthnot, Scotland Probably born to Robert Lockhart, Jr. 3. Lily Lockhart b. c 1872 m. Joseph Doremus b. c 1870 d. bef 1948 d. abt 1848-49 4. Wallace Joseph Doremus b. 5/21/1894 Dobbs Ferry, NY Robert (Robbie) Doremus b. 11/26/1898 " Gladys Doremus b. c. 1901 m. ? Schlough Viola Doremus b. c. 1903 As it stands, I am trying to get birth certificate for Wallace Joseph Doremus, to see what I can find on his parents, (birth dates, locations, etc) to verify the line to that point. With 2nd son Robert born to Joseph and Lily Lockhart Doremus, it appears likely that her father was named Robert. As I have found this line with a Robert migrating to Yonkers, NY, which is a stone's throw from Dobbs Ferry, it appears plausible that Robert Lockhart, Jr. is her father. In addition, the Wallace name used as middle name for my grandfather (Joseph Wallace) and seeing the same middle name used for Elizabeth Wallace Lockhart, it would look like another probable connection, leading to believe that Robert Lockhart, Jr.'s wife might have been a Wallace. If this proves true, my next step would be to see what I can find on Lockhart family shown and their connection to the Donaldson line, and possibly with the Wallace line. If you can offer any assistance with the Donaldson/Lockhart lines that you have, I would be most grateful. In searching on my mother's maternal line, (Hillicker and Woodbury) I have found several Hillicker lines that also connect with the Donaldson line, but have no information on their connection or lack of connection with Janet Donaldson. There were three Hillicker brothers who married Donaldson girls and they might all be sisters and might connect with Janet, but there is nothing available to prove one way or the other. Minerva Donaldson married Nelson Hillicker Anne Donaldson married James Hillicker Eleanor Donaldson married Isaac Hillicker The Hillicker line came originally from Germany settled in Westchester Co., NY, possibly migrated to Vermont, Canada, and other points in NY. My Hillicker line I am trying to connect to this line comes from Westchester Co., area of NY, and if these Donaldson girls connect in some way with Janet, and also with my Hilliker line, it would certainly be interesting. Thanks for anything you can offer to help find if my line connects with this Lockhart/Donaldson family. Appreciate anything you can offer. Holly M. Snead snead@bellsouth.net
I have just discovered that my ancestor, John DONALDSON, was born in England c. 1745. This was on his Rev. War record that I recently received from the SC Archives. This info was not included with the first report I asked for nearly 20 yrs. ago. Will someone kindly suggest what my next step should be in pining down the area he might have been from? Thanks.
