    3. I saved your e-mail offer to do look ups in your book, Descendants of Moses Donaldson. I thought I would let the dust settle from you initial offer before making a request. I know this is a real long shot, but I have been searching for years for any information on my gr, gr grandmother, Margery (various spellings) Donaldson, who was born about 1797 in PA or MD and who married Alexander Chaney before 1818. She and Alexander moved to Meigs Co., OH in 1821. If you could check the book for her, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Jean in WV

    1. [DONALDSON-L] Korean Service Medal and other Korean Conflict Military Information
    2. I am sending this out to all the pages I have subscribed to, mainly I know there are more individuals out there than this gentleman trying to find information on a relative that served in the US Armed forces. I just hope the links work, just in case they dont work I have included the actual web addresses. I apologize for the length and hope it is of some use to someone else. I have just recently done some research on my father's military records. I am no expert on this but I would like to share what information I have found. Here is a reply to a recent inquiry: While searching some military records for background on a bio I'm writing on a family member, I found the following listed under the heading of "Decorations, Medals, Badges, Commendations, Citations & Campaign Ribbons Awarded or authorized:" Korean Svc Medal AR 600-65 (Awarded to anyone who served a certain amount of time in Korea) EUSAK Cir 125 25 Dec 50 (Not sure about this one) 3 Bronze Stars DA GO 55 1951 (These were awarded depending on how many actions the individual was involved in Korea, they are worn on the actual medal or ribbon). 1 O/S Bar AR 600-40 (Overseas Bar) (Awarded for each year served overseas) (Not sure on these) GCM w/3 Lps., SOG-30, 516 TCW AFLSA w/2 OLC, AFR 900-10 CCMDL AFR 35-50, 25 Jul 57 Can anyone help me decipher all this? What are each of these medals & commendatiions? What does one have to do in order to obtain these honors? Thank you in advance for any information you may have or for any guidance you may render. Have a Happy Fourth of July! Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com For additional information on this medal check out these websites: <A HREF="http://grunt.8m.com/ksm.htm">Grunt: Korean Service Medal</A> (http://grunt.8m.com/ksm.htm) <A HREF="http://www.usarotc.com/medals/ksm.htm">Korean Service Medal</A> (http://www.usarotc.com/medals/ksm.htm) There is a lot of information on the Form DD214 (Form of Separation) but there is a lot of information that it doesnt have sometimes. If the individual you are researching seved in Korea, he/she could be eligible for some other awards. Good Conduct Medal Republic of Korea Presidential Citation (Awarded by the Korean Government) National Defense Service Medal United Nations Service Medal (Korea) You can find information on all of these medals at the following website: <A HREF="http://www.usarotc.com/awards.htm">Army Awards and Decorations</A> (http://www.usarotc.com/awards.htm) There is also a new award that just recently became available to Korean Vets. The U.S. Armed forces is not issuing this medal, but authorizing it for wear by Korean Vets. It is only available through civilian market military surplus stores. Vets will not get any notification on this medal. This is the link for more information on it: <A HREF="http://asa.npoint.net/newmedal.htm">Republic of Korea War Service Medal</A> ( http://www.usarotc.com/medals/kpuc.htm) If the individual you are researching was in the Army or Air Force there is a good chance that there records were destroyed in a fire at the St. Louis storage facility in 1973. If you have copies of their service records they will reconstruct their records from your copies. I just recently inquired on my father who was in the Army, they did not have his records. They did however reconstruct them off of what we had copies of. The US Armed forces will also send the individual any medals and/or awards they earned while in service. However, they will not send them to the Veteran's family. For more information on how to contact them, forms, and mailing information here is the link to their website: <A HREF="http://www.nara.gov/research/ordering/milordr.html">Access to Military Service and Pension Record...</A> (http://www.nara.gov/research/ordering/milordr.html) I hope this information is of some use to someone out there researching some one in the US Armed forces. I dont know of a better time to do this than today, Happy Fourth of July and just remember the true meaning of the day. If you feel this information useful feel free to forward it on to someone else. 1. [DONALDSON-L] John Donaldson
    2. Joanne Harley
    3. I am still looking for the family of John Donaldson who was born in England (where, I do not know) in 1745 according to his Rev. War papers, and lived in the Old Cheraws District of SC. His wife was Sarah, maiden name unknown at this time, and his children were William, John and Peter, all named in their fathers Will of 1781, recorded in Richmond Co.,NC which is where they were living when John Donaldson died. His wife, Sarah, married again to a Daniel Hicks who lived in that area. He was also in the war and served with Sarah Donaldsons' husband, John. Their son John stayed in the area, but she and the other two sons vanish from the records. Peter is not a very common name, and thought he might show up somewhere , but so far I have not seen his name anywhere. Nor have I seen William Donaldson's name in the records. They may have moved to another state. So many did with new land opening up everywhere. Would be glad to hear from anyone with any information. Joanne, N.C.

    1. [DONALDSON-L] Joseph L. Donaldson
    2. Dan Eliassen
    3. Hi there, I am new to this list, and I am searching for any info regarding my earliest known Donaldson ancestor, Joseph L. Donaldson. A vintner by profession, apparently, he married Mary Jane Williams, 11 February 1833 at Trinity Church, New York, New York, U.S.A. Their son, Theodore Donaldson was born 1834 at Long Island, New York, U.S.A. Theodore joined the Christy Minstrels, and went on tour to Europe. In Ireland he married Elizabeth Anna Baldwin, 10 September 1868 at St. George's, Dublin, Ireland. Theodore died 22 January 1904 at Dublin, Ireland. Elizabeth Anna Baldwin (b. 28 March 1843, d. 1 November 1914 at Dublin, Ireland) was the daughter of a doctor at the Rotunda hospital in Dublin, where there was a Variety Theatre, The Rotunda Theatre.
